김건희 여사 관련 의혹을 수사 중인 민중기 특별검사팀이 국민의힘 권성동 의원에 대해 구속영장을 청구했다. 혐의는 통일교 측으로부터 불법 정치자금을 수수했다는 것이다.

The special investigation team led by Prosecutor Min Joong-ki, probing allegations related to First Lady Kim Keon-hee, has requested an arrest warrant for Rep. Kwon Seong-dong of the People Power Party. He is accused of receiving illegal political funds from the Unification Church.

특검에 따르면 권 의원은 2022년 1월 통일교 전 세계본부장 윤영호 씨로부터 1억 원을 받은 혐의를 받고 있다. 이어 같은 해 2~3월경에는 한학자 총재로부터 금품이 담긴 쇼핑백 2개를 전달받았다는 정황도 포착됐다. 특검은 권 의원의 행위가 정치자금법 위반에 해당한다고 보고 구속 수사 필요성을 강조했다.

According to the special prosecutor, Kwon allegedly received 100 million won (approx. USD 75,000) from Yoon Young-ho, head of the Unification Church’s global headquarters, in January 2022. In February or March of the same year, he is also suspected of receiving two shopping bags filled with money from Hak Ja Han, the church’s leader. The prosecutors argue that these actions constitute a violation of the Political Funds Act and stress the need for his detention.

그러나 권 의원은 현역 국회의원 신분으로 불체포 특권을 보유하고 있어, 실제 구속 여부는 국회의 동의 절차를 거쳐야 한다. 구속영장이 발부되려면 국회 본회의에서 체포동의안이 표결·가결돼야 한다.

However, as a sitting member of the National Assembly, Kwon is protected by parliamentary immunity from arrest. Therefore, the warrant can only be executed if the National Assembly approves a motion for his arrest through a plenary vote.

이번 영장 청구는 김건희 여사 관련 특검 수사가 여권 핵심 인사에게까지 확산되는 양상을 보이는 가운데, 향후 정치권에 큰 파장을 미칠 것으로 전망된다.
