2026년 새해의 첫날, 강원의 산자락은 이른 아침부터 조용한 발걸음으로 깨어났다.

강원특별자치도교육청은 1월 1일 춘천 대룡산 명봉에서 신년 해맞이 행사를 열고, 병오년(丙午年) 새해를 향한 교육의 방향과 각오를 다졌다.

해가 동해의 능선을 넘어 떠오르기 전, 교육청 직원들은 명봉에 올라 짧은 덕담을 나누고 묵묵히 새해를 맞았다. 거창한 선언보다는, 지역 교육의 현장을 지탱해 온 사람들의 다짐이 조용히 오갔다. 강원교육의 미래와 교육가족의 안녕을 기원하는 시간이었다.

이튿날인 1월 2일 오전 10시 30분, 춘천 본청 대강당에서는 2026년 시무식이 열렸다. 국민의례와 함께 순국선열과 호국영령, 그리고 교육 현장에서 순직한 교직원들을 기리는 묵념이 이어지며 행사는 엄숙하게 시작됐다.

행사장에는 강원어린이합창단의 노래가 울려 퍼졌다. 새해를 여는 아이들의 목소리는 단순한 공연을 넘어, 교육이 지향해야 할 이유와 목적을 상기시키는 메시지로 다가왔다. 이어 본청 전입 직원 소개가 진행되며, 조직 안에서의 소통과 연대의 의미가 자연스럽게 강조됐다.

시무식에서는 우수·모범공무원에 대한 시상과 함께 강원교육 정책 홍보 영상이 상영됐다. 신년사를 통해 교육청은 2026년 주요 정책 방향과 중점 추진 과제를 공유하며, 현장 중심의 교육 행정과 지속 가능한 교육 생태계 구축에 대한 의지를 분명히 했다.

강원교육가족은 이날 “교육은 행정의 결과가 아니라, 지역민의 삶을 완성하는 과정”이라며, 소통과 협력을 기반으로 한 교육 행정을 통해 강원교육의 다음 단계를 함께 만들어가겠다는 새해 다짐을 나눴다.

On January 1, the Gangwon Provincial Office of Education welcomed the New Year with a sunrise ceremony at Daeryongsan’s Myeongbong Peak in Chuncheon, marking the beginning of its work for the Year of the Red Horse with reflection rather than spectacle.

As the sun edged over the eastern ridgeline, education officials and staff gathered at the summit, exchanging brief greetings and standing in shared silence. There were no grand proclamations—only a collective resolve shaped by the everyday realities of schools and classrooms across the province.

The following morning, January 2, at 10:30 a.m., the Office formally opened the year with its inaugural ceremony at the main auditorium of its headquarters in Chuncheon. The event began with a national tribute and a moment of silence honoring fallen patriots, national heroes, and educators who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Hope entered the hall through the voices of the Gangwon Children’s Choir. Their performance, more than a ceremonial interlude, served as a reminder of the purpose of education itself—and of whom it ultimately serves. Introductions of newly appointed staff followed, reinforcing a sense of continuity and cohesion within the organization.

The ceremony also recognized exemplary public officials and featured a video outlining key education initiatives. In a New Year’s address, education leaders shared the administration’s core policy directions for 2026, emphasizing a commitment to field-oriented governance and a sustainable educational ecosystem rooted in local communities.

As the ceremony drew to a close, members of the Gangwon education community echoed a shared conviction: that education is not merely an administrative task, but a long-term investment in the quality of life of the region’s citizens—one that must be built through cooperation, dialogue, and steady leadership.
