춘천시(시장 육동한)가 오랜 준비 끝에 드디어 ‘호수지방정원 조성사업’의 출발선에 섰다.

After years of preparation, Chuncheon City (Mayor Yuk Dong-han) has finally embarked on the “Lake Regional Garden Project.”

시는 10월 1일 오후 3시, 상중도 지방정원 부지(중도동 256번지)에서 ‘춘천호수지방정원 시민과 함께하는 출발식’을 개최한다.

On October 1 at 3 p.m., the city will hold the “Chuncheon Lake Regional Garden Launch Ceremony with Citizens” at the Sangjungdo site (256 Jungdo-dong).

이번 행사는 지난 9월 비전선포식에서 시민이 심은 씨앗이 화분으로 자라 무대에 오르는 상징적 퍼포먼스로 정원도시의 여정을 함께 시작한다. 시민 누구나 참석할 수 있다.

This event will feature a symbolic performance where seeds planted by citizens during the September Vision Declaration Ceremony have grown into pots and will be placed on stage, marking the joint beginning of the garden city journey. The event is open to all citizens.

호수지방정원은 의암호와 상중도의 물과 섬을 최대한 활용해 시민 주도의 참여와 인위적 요소 최소화를 목표로 구상됐다.

The Lake Regional Garden is designed to make the most of Uiam Lake and Sangjungdo’s water and islands, with citizen-led participation and minimal artificial intervention as its goals.

무엇보다 의암호 수자원과 상중도의 생태환경을 최대한 보존하면서 물·산세·습지가 어우러진 친환경 정원을 구현하는 것이 핵심이다.

Above all, the core principle is to preserve Uiam Lake’s water resources and Sangjungdo’s ecological environment while creating an eco-friendly garden harmonizing water, landscape, and wetlands.

시는 1년여간 정원 전문기관과 자문위원, 시민과 지속적으로 소통하며 공간 구상을 완성하고 문화재·환경 문제 등 난제도 면밀히 검토하며 사업 기반을 다졌다.

Over the past year, the city has worked closely with garden experts, advisory committees, and citizens to finalize the design while carefully reviewing challenges such as cultural heritage and environmental issues, thereby laying a solid foundation for the project.

이 출발식은 이러한 긴 준비 과정을 시민과 함께 나누는 첫 결실이자 정원도시 춘천으로 향하는 상징적인 출발점이기도 하다.

This launch ceremony represents the first fruit of this long preparation shared with citizens and serves as a symbolic starting point toward Chuncheon’s vision as a garden city.

시는 이번 출발식을 기점으로 본격적인 조성사업에 들어간다. 부지 면적은 약 18만㎡, 총사업비는 154억 원 규모로 2027년 준공을 목표로 추진된다.

Starting with this ceremony, the city will officially begin the construction project. Covering an area of about 180,000㎡ with a total project cost of 15.4 billion KRW, it is scheduled for completion in 2027.

완성될 정원은 시민의 일상에 휴식과 치유를 제공하고 춘천의 독창적 매력을 담아내는 새로운 상징 공간이 될 전망이다.

Once completed, the garden will provide relaxation and healing in citizens’ daily lives and become a new symbolic space that reflects Chuncheon’s unique charm.

시 관계자는 “호수지방정원은 단순한 공간이 아니라 시민 한 사람 한사람의 삶 속에 스며드는 휴식과 치유의 장소가 될 것”이라며 “시민과 함께 만드는 정원도시 춘천의 미래를 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

A city official stated, “The Lake Regional Garden will not simply be a space, but a place of rest and healing woven into the lives of every citizen. We will do our utmost for the future of Chuncheon as a garden city built together with its citizens.”
