이재명 대통령과 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령은 25일(현지시간) 워싱턴 DC 백악관 집무실에서 만나 조선업을 중심으로 한 양국 경제 협력 강화를 논의했다.
South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and U.S. President Donald Trump met on August 25 (local time) at the White House in Washington, D.C., to discuss strengthening bilateral economic cooperation, with a focus on the shipbuilding industry.

이 대통령은 모두발언에서 “미국이 다시 위대하게 변하고 있는 것 같다”며 “조선 분야뿐 아니라 제조업 전반에서 르네상스가 이뤄지고 있고, 그 과정에 대한민국도 함께하기를 기대한다”고 말했다.
President Lee said in his opening remarks, “It seems that America is becoming great again,” adding, “A renaissance is taking place not only in shipbuilding but across manufacturing, and I hope Korea can be a part of that process.”

또 그는 한미동맹을 군사 영역을 넘어 경제·과학기술로 확장하자고 강조했다.
He also emphasized expanding the Korea-U.S. alliance beyond the military realm to include the economy and science and technology.

트럼프 대통령은 “미국의 조선업은 폐쇄적 환경 속에서 침체되어 왔지만, 한국과 협력해 다시 부흥할 수 있기를 바란다”며 “미국 조선업을 한국과 함께 위대하게 만들겠다”고 밝혔다.
President Trump stated, “America’s shipbuilding industry has long been stagnant under closed conditions, but I hope to revive it through cooperation with Korea,” adding, “We will make U.S. shipbuilding great again with Korea.”

그는 이어 “한국은 에너지가 필요하고 미국은 알래스카에 풍부한 자원을 갖고 있다”며 상호 협력을 강조했다.
He further noted, “Korea needs energy, and the U.S. has abundant resources in Alaska,” stressing the importance of mutual cooperation.

양국 정상은 한목소리로 한미동맹이 단순한 안보 동맹을 넘어 “서로 필요한 관계”임을 확인했다.
Both leaders reaffirmed that the Korea-U.S. alliance is more than just a security partnership, describing it as a “mutually essential relationship.”
