세계로 향하는 글로벌 리더십의 발판, 강릉여고 ‘워싱턴 리더십 프로그램(WLP)’

강릉여자고등학교(교장 주향숙)가 후배 사랑이 각별한 한 동문의 헌신으로 매년 이어지는 글로벌 장학 연수 프로그램을 운영해 귀감이 되고 있다. 학교는 7월 22일(화)부터 8월 1일(금)까지 8박 10일 동안 미국 워싱턴에서 ‘2025년도 워싱턴 리더십 프로그램(WLP)’을 진행한다고 밝혔다.

Gangneung Girls' High School (Principal Joo Hyang-sook) is earning admiration for a heartfelt global scholarship program made possible by the dedication of an alumna. From July 22 (Tue) to August 1 (Fri), the school will host the 2025 "Washington Leadership Program (WLP)" in Washington, D.C., for 8 nights and 10 days.

The Beautiful Generosity of an Alumna

이 프로그램은 1970년 강릉여고를 졸업한 나승희 동문(26회, KASM 대표)이 전액 후원하는 장학 연수 프로그램이다. 2022년 시작돼 올해로 3년째를 맞는 이번 연수에는 2학년 재학생 4명, 전년도 학생회장으로 졸업한 동문 1명, 인솔교사 1명 등 총 6명이 참가한다.

The program is a scholarship initiative fully sponsored by alumna Na Seung-hee (26th graduating class, CEO of KASM), who graduated in 1970. Now in its third year since its inception in 2022, the program will host six participants this year: four current second-year students, one alumna (last year’s student council president), and one accompanying teacher.

나승희 동문은 참가 학생들의 항공료와 체류 비용 전액을 부담할 뿐 아니라, 프로그램 기획과 운영 전반에도 직접 참여한다. 그녀는 “장차 한국 사회를 이끌어갈 후배들이 더 넓은 세상을 경험하며 리더로 성장하길 바란다”는 마음으로 이 연수를 이어가고 있다.

Na not only covers all airfare and living expenses but also personally participates in planning and operating the program. “I hope that our future leaders will experience a bigger world and grow as true leaders,” she said of her motivation for supporting the initiative.

미국 역사·문화 탐방과 리더십 특강

Exploring U.S. History, Culture, and Leadership

참가 학생들은 워싱턴 체류 기간 동안 대한제국 공사관, 한국전쟁기념관, 국회의사당, 유대인학살추모관, 스미스소니언 우주항공박물관 등 미국의 역사와 문화를 대표하는 기관을 탐방할 예정이다. 또 나승희 동문이 직접 진행하는 미국사 특강을 통해 리더십과 글로벌 시민 의식을 배우게 된다.

During their stay, the students will visit key historical and cultural landmarks in the U.S., including the Old Korean Legation, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the U.S. Capitol, the Holocaust Memorial Museum, and the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. They will also attend a special lecture on U.S. history led by Na, designed to cultivate leadership and a sense of global citizenship.

주향숙 교장은 “청소년기에 세계를 경험하는 이 연수는 학생들에게 큰 자산이 될 것”이라며, “아낌없는 후원을 실천해 주신 나승희 동문과 강릉여고 동문회에 깊이 감사드린다”고 전했다.

Principal Joo Hyang-sook remarked, “This program will be an invaluable asset for students to experience the world at a young age. I sincerely thank alumna Na Seung-hee and the Gangneung Girls' High School Alumni Association for their unwavering support.”

나승희 동문은 지난해 강원특별자치도교육청으로부터 ‘강원교육 발전에 기여한 공로’로 감사장을 받은 바 있다. 후배들을 위해 정성을 다하는 그녀의 헌신적인 모습은 성인뿐 아니라 MZ세대에게도 큰 울림을 주고 있다.

Last year, Na received an appreciation plaque from the Gangwon Provincial Office of Education for her contribution to advancing education in the region. Her devotion to nurturing future leaders resonates deeply, inspiring not only adults but also the MZ generation.
