  • While coffee represents a daily energy boost, tea represents time to recover one’s spirit.

The 2025 TEA WORLD EXPO held at COEX in Seoul presented a surprising scene. Once considered the domain of older generations, tea culture is now resonating with the emotions and values of the MZ generation in their 20s and 30s, taking on a whole new form.

Going beyond mere trend-following, they are redefining balance in daily life by choosing a cup of tea that suits their individual health needs.

The expo saw a remarkable turnout of young visitors, many of whom said they switched from coffee to tea because it “feels better on the body.”

After experiencing insomnia, stomach discomfort, and anxiety due to excessive caffeine intake, they turned their attention to tea.

A booth offering personalized tea recommendations based on body constitution analysis was one of the most popular at the event.

Choosing tea based on health status - such as ginger yuzu tea for colds, peppermint blends for indigestion, or rosemary tea for concentration - strongly appealed to this generation.

The MZ generation’s love for tea isn’t just about health. Tea symbolizes rest and ritual.

More and more people believe that taking time each day to brew tea for themselves is the essence of self-care.

They style minimalist spaces using traditional teacups and tea trays, turning the experience itself into aesthetically pleasing content.

Tea culture carries values of slowness, stillness, and natural living - all of which appeal to their sense of what is ‘hip.’

Their destinations are no longer franchise coffee shops, but intimate tea salons, herbal tea boutiques, and offline tea ritual classes.

While coffee represents a daily energy boost, tea represents time to recover one’s spirit.

In this sense, tea is no longer just a beverage for the MZ generation - it is a lifestyle shift and a tool for rediscovering the self.

In 2025, the MZ generation no longer insists on living fast. Through the aesthetics of slowness and mindful choices, they are living life more deeply. And at the heart of that is tea.

And we are witnessing this quiet revolution unfold before our eyes.
