There is a massive ship sailing through stormy seas — its name is The Republic of Korea.

거센 폭풍 속을 항해 중인 거대한 배가 있습니다. 그 이름은 대한민국호입니다.

The waves are rising, the winds are erratic, and the journey is perilous.

물결은 점점 거세지고, 바람은 변덕스럽게 불어옵니다.

These are times that demand clarity, direction, and leadership.

지금은 명확한 판단과 방향 설정, 리더십이 절실한 시기입니다.

Yet, our captain and crew — that is, the nation’s leaders and politicians — seem more preoccupied with fighting over who gets to hold the wheel than with where this vessel should be headed.

하지만 선장과 승무원들—즉 이 나라의 지도자들과 정치인들—은 이 배가 어디로 가야 할지보다, 누가 조타기를 쥐었느냐를 두고 싸우기에 바쁩니다.

Diplomatic Storms, National Perils

외교의 파고, 국가의 위기

The global landscape is shifting daily.

전 세계 정세는 하루가 다르게 요동치고 있습니다.

U.S. President Trump has sent a personal letter to Kim Jong-un, only for North Korea to flatly reject it through its UN mission.

미국의 트럼프 대통령은 김정은에게 친서를 보냈지만, 북한은 이를 유엔 북한대표부를 통해 정면 거절했습니다.

The door to diplomacy on the Korean Peninsula seems to be closing once again.

한반도를 둘러싼 대화의 문이 다시 닫히고 있다는 신호입니다.

Meanwhile, North Korea is advancing its nuclear capabilities, and the possibility of a reduction or withdrawal of U.S. troops in South Korea looms large, stirring real anxiety.

북한은 핵 능력을 고도화하고 있고, 주한미군의 철수 또는 감축 문제는 현실적인 불안요소로 다시 떠오르고 있습니다.

In the Middle East, Israel grows increasingly independent from U.S. influence, escalating tensions with Iran and rattling global stability.

중동에서는 이스라엘이 미국의 영향력에서 벗어나 독자적 행동을 강화하며, 이란과의 충돌 가능성을 키우고 있습니다.

Russia’s war in Ukraine shows no sign of ending.

러시아와 우크라이나의 전쟁은 여전히 끝날 기미가 없습니다.

In this chaotic geopolitical climate, we must ask: Whom should we align with, and what foreign policy strategies must we adopt?

이러한 혼란스러운 국제 정세 속에서 우리는 누구와 협력하고 어떤 외교 전략을 취해야 할지 진지하게 고민해야 합니다.

But What About Domestic Politics?

그런데 국내 정치의 현실은?

Back home aboard the Korea ship, our politicians are still locked in petty quarrels in the wheelhouse.

대한민국호 내부를 들여다보면, 정치권은 여전히 조타실에서 사소한 싸움에 몰두하고 있습니다.

The economy is slowing. Ordinary lives are teetering on the edge.

경제는 둔화되고 민생은 벼랑 끝에 몰려 있습니다.

Yet the National Assembly squanders time in endless partisan bickering.

그런데 국회는 끝없는 정쟁으로 시간을 허비하고 있습니다.

People suffer under soaring prices.

국민들은 고물가에 신음하고 있습니다.

Young adults see no future here and look abroad for hope.

청년들은 이 땅에서 미래를 보지 못해 외국으로 눈을 돌리고 있습니다.

Parents despair over their children's education and job prospects.

부모들은 자녀의 교육과 일자리 문제 앞에서 좌절하고 있습니다.

But still, the political class debates who’s more conservative or more progressive, who started what, and who’s to blame.

그런데 정치권은 여전히 누가 더 보수인지, 누가 먼저 잘못했는지를 따지기만 합니다.

To the average citizen, it all feels like a self-indulgent league of their own — far removed from the real concerns of the people.

국민이 보기엔 그저 ‘자기들만의 리그’일 뿐, 현실과는 동떨어진 싸움입니다.

“Who Can We Possibly Trust to Lead This Nation?”

“도대체 우리는 누구를 믿고 살아야 합니까?”

This is the question now rising from the people:

이제 국민은 묻습니다.

“Who will take responsibility for steering this country forward?”

“이 나라의 항로를 책임질 사람은 누구입니까?”

“In these turbulent times, who will protect our lives and our daily dignity?”

“이 위기의 시대에, 누가 국민의 생명과 일상을 지켜줄 수 있습니까?”

The public no longer wants exaggerated slogans or emotional theatrics.

국민은 더 이상 과장된 슬로건이나 감성적 연출을 원하지 않습니다.

What they demand is leadership grounded in reality — eyes open, ears open, and feet on the ground.

국민이 원하는 것은 현실을 직시하고, 귀를 열고 눈을 뜨고 발로 뛰는 정치입니다.

They long for public servants who put lives before power, and who value responsibility above control.

권력보다 국민의 삶을, 통제보다 책임을 중시하는 정치인을 국민은 기다리고 있습니다.

Politics Is About Setting the Course

정치란, 방향을 잡는 일입니다

So what is politics, really?

정치란 무엇입니까?

Is it not the act of charting a course for the people’s lives?

국민의 삶을 위한 항해 지도를 그리는 일 아닙니까?

The task of politicians is not to fight, but to steer - not to speak more, but to act more.

정치인의 역할은 싸움이 아니라 항로 설정이며, 말이 아니라 행동입니다.

In the face of today’s geopolitical chaos and economic strain, the people are crying out for politics to return to its rightful place.

지금처럼 국제정세가 복잡하고 경제가 혼란한 상황에서 국민은 정치가 제자리를 찾기를 간절히 바라고 있습니다.

So Let Me Ask Again: “Is This Really Acceptable?”

이제 묻습니다. “정말 이래도 괜찮습니까?”

To the captain and crew of the Republic of Korea~

대한민국호의 선장과 승무원들이여~

Do you not realize that your endless feuds may cause this entire ship to wreck?

당신들의 끝없는 싸움이 이 배 전체를 좌초시킬 수 있다는 걸 아십니까?

Even now, someone is giving up on life. Someone is contemplating emigration. Someone is simply trying to survive the day.

지금 이 순간에도 누군가는 삶을 포기하고, 누군가는 이민을 고민하며, 누군가는 하루를 버티려 애쓰고 있습니다.

It’s not too late. Not yet.

아직 늦지 않았습니다.

Look beyond party lines. See the people. Take responsibility. Chart the course.

당파를 넘어 국민을 보고, 책임을 지고 방향을 잡으십시오.

It is the people who have sustained this nation.

지금까지 나라를 지켜온 것은 국민입니다.

Now, it’s time for politics to return the favor and protect the people.

이제 정치가 국민을 지켜야 할 시간입니다.

Politics is a power entrusted briefly by the people — a delegation, not a crown.

정치는 국민이 잠시 맡긴 위임장입니다. 왕관이 아닙니다.

If you do not fulfill that duty, the people have every right to reclaim it.

그 책임을 다하지 않는다면, 국민은 언제든 회수할 권리가 있습니다.
