동해시 용산서원, 12년째 ‘살아 있는 국가유산’ 이어간다

오랜 세월 지역의 배움과 정신문화의 맥을 이어온 동해 용산서원이 보존에만 머무는 문화유산을 넘어, 시민들이 직접 배우고 체험하는 ‘살아 있는 문화공간’으로 새롭게 거듭난다.

Yongsan Seowon in Donghae, which has preserved the region’s tradition of learning and spiritual culture for generations, is being renewed as a “living cultural space” where citizens can learn and participate firsthand—going beyond the conventional role of a heritage site preserved only for viewing.

동해문화관광재단은 국가유산청이 주관하는 ‘2027년 우리고장 국가유산 활용사업’ 향교·서원 부문에 용산서원이 선정돼 2015년부터 12년 연속 사업을 이어가게 됐다고 밝혔다.

 The Donghae Culture and Tourism Foundation announced that Yongsan Seowon has been selected in the hyanggyo and seowon category of the Korea Heritage Service’s 2027 Local National Heritage Program. The selection allows the project to continue for the 12th consecutive year since 2015.

용산서원은 지역의 역사와 선비문화를 현대적으로 재해석한 프로그램을 꾸준히 운영해 왔다. 2015년과 2020년에는 향교·서원 문화유산 활용 우수사업으로 선정되며 콘텐츠의 경쟁력과 우수성을 인정받았다.

 Yongsan Seowon has consistently offered programs that reinterpret local history and traditional seonbi culture for contemporary audiences. Its content and competitiveness were recognized when it was selected as an Outstanding Hyanggyo and Seowon Cultural Heritage Program in both 2015 and 2020.

내년에는 ‘용산서원 문화정원으로 New-學(유학)가자!’를 주제로 강원특별자치도 유형문화유산인 ‘동해 용산서원 전적류 일괄’과 ‘용산서원 학규현판’을 적극적으로 활용한다.

Next year’s program will be presented under the theme “Let’s Discover New Learning at Yongsan Seowon’s Cultural Garden!” It will make active use of two Tangible Cultural Heritage assets of Gangwon State: the Collection of Classical Texts from Yongsan Seowon in Donghae and the Yongsan Seowon Academic Regulations Plaque.

재단 관계자는 “12년 연속 선정은 용산서원이 과거에 머문 문화유산이 아니라 지금도 새로운 이야기를 만들어가는 공간이라는 의미”라고 말했다.

“Being selected for the 12th consecutive year demonstrates that Yongsan Seowon is not a cultural heritage site confined to the past, but a living space that continues to create new stories today,” a foundation official said.

이어 “지역의 역사와 선비정신을 오늘의 시민과 다음 세대가 자연스럽게 만날 수 있도록 프로그램을 더욱 내실 있게 운영하겠다”고 밝혔다.

The official added, “We will further strengthen the programs so that today’s citizens and future generations can naturally encounter the region’s history and the scholarly spirit and values of the seonbi.”
