동해의 바다는 늘 그 자리에 있었지만, 그 바다를 바라보는 우리의 시선은 시대에 따라 달라진다. 한때는 삶의 터전이었고, 또 한때는 산업과 항구의 풍경이었다. 이제 묵호와 발한은 빛과 영상, 그리고 예술을 통해 새로운 이야기를 써 내려가고 있다.

The sea of Donghae has always been there, yet the way we look at it changes with time. Once it was a place of livelihood, then a landscape of industry and ports. Today, Mukho and Balhan are writing a new story through light, moving images, and art.

동해시는 발한지구 도시재생사업으로 조성된 마도로스거리 미디어월을 무대로, 제1회 묵호·발한 미디어아트 영상 공모전 **「발한을 담길」**을 개최한다. 도시의 기억과 사람들의 삶, 그리고 새롭게 변화한 공간을 영상예술로 표현하는 특별한 프로젝트다.

Donghae City is launching the first Mukho–Balhan Media Art Video Contest, “Balhan, Captured in Light,” using the Media Wall on Madoros Street, created through the Balhan Urban Regeneration Project. It is a unique initiative that transforms the memories of the city, the lives of its people, and newly revitalized spaces into visual art.

묵호와 발한은 단순한 지명이 아니다. 오랜 세월 동해안을 지켜온 항구의 역사이며, 수많은 사람들의 꿈과 추억이 쌓여 있는 삶의 무대다. 이번 공모전은 그 이야기를 새로운 감각으로 재해석해 시민과 관광객들에게 선보이는 기회가 될 것이다.

Mukho and Balhan are more than place names. They are the history of ports that have stood along Korea’s East Coast for generations, and stages upon which countless dreams and memories have unfolded. This contest offers an opportunity to reinterpret those stories through a fresh creative lens and share them with residents and visitors alike.

참가 분야는 미디어아트, 모션그래픽, 생성형 AI 영상 등 제한이 없다. 기술과 예술, 상상력만 있다면 누구나 참여할 수 있다. 길이는 10초에서 40초 사이로, 짧지만 강렬한 이야기의 힘이 중요하다.

There are no restrictions on format. Participants may submit media art, motion graphics, AI-generated videos, or any other creative visual work. Anyone with imagination, artistic vision, and technology can join. Entries should be between 10 and 40 seconds long—short in duration, but powerful in storytelling.

공모 접수는 9월 1일부터 9월 30일까지 진행되며, 대상 1점(상금 200만 원)을 포함해 총 9개 작품이 선정된다. 총상금은 500만 원 규모다.

Submissions will be accepted from September 1 to September 30. A total of nine winning works will be selected, including one Grand Prize winner receiving KRW 2 million. The total prize pool amounts to KRW 5 million.

선정된 작품들은 오는 10월 20일부터 마도로스거리 미디어월을 통해 상영된다. 바닷바람이 스치는 거리에서, 항구의 밤하늘 아래에서, 창작자들의 상상력은 도시의 풍경이 되어 시민과 여행객을 맞이하게 된다.

The winning works will be displayed on the Madoros Street Media Wall beginning October 20. Along streets touched by the sea breeze and beneath the harbor’s night sky, the imagination of creators will become part of the cityscape, welcoming both residents and travelers.

도시재생은 단순히 건물을 고치는 일이 아니다. 그 공간에 새로운 이야기를 채우고, 사람들의 기억과 감성을 이어주는 일이다. 「발한을 담길」은 빛과 영상으로 지역의 과거와 현재, 그리고 미래를 연결하는 작은 문화 항구가 될 것이다.

Urban regeneration is not merely about restoring buildings. It is about filling spaces with new stories and connecting people through memory and emotion. “Balhan, Captured in Light” will serve as a cultural harbor where the past, present, and future of the region meet through light and moving images.

묵호와 발한의 이야기가 이제 빛이 되어 흐른다.
