동해시 청소년들, 경찰관에게 감사 전한 ‘8월의 크리스마스’

동해시는 지난 8월 5일, 무더운 여름에도 지역사회의 안전을 위해 헌신하는 동해경찰서 임직원들에게 감사의 마음을 전하기 위해 ‘8월의 크리스마스’ 마음나눔 봉사활동을 진행했다고 밝혔다.

On August 5, Donghae City held a special community volunteer event titled “Christmas in August” to express appreciation to the officers and staff of Donghae Police Station, who continue to work tirelessly to keep the community safe throughout the hot summer months.

이번 활동에는 동해시청소년상담복지센터 상담동아리 ‘너나둘이’ 소속 청소년 7명이 참여했다. 청소년들은 직접 만든 파네토네(Panettone·이탈리아 전통빵)와 정성스럽게 작성한 응원 메시지를 동해경찰서에 전달했다.

Seven young members of “Neona Duri,” a counseling club affiliated with the Donghae Youth Counseling and Welfare Center, took part in the event. They personally baked panettone, a traditional Italian sweet bread, and prepared heartfelt messages of encouragement for the local police officers.

청소년들은 시민의 안전을 위해 애쓰는 경찰관들에게 직접 감사의 마음을 전하며 지역사회와 소통하는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌다.

By personally delivering their gifts and messages, the young participants expressed their gratitude to the police officers dedicated to protecting local residents and enjoyed a meaningful opportunity to connect with their community.

‘8월의 크리스마스’는 계절과 관계없이 감사와 나눔을 실천하자는 의미를 담아 기획된 지역사회 연계 봉사활동이다.

“Christmas in August” is a community-based volunteer initiative designed around a simple idea: gratitude and generosity do not have to wait for a particular season.

청소년들이 나눔 활동을 직접 기획하고 실천하는 과정을 통해 공동체 의식과 배려, 사회적 책임감을 키울 수 있도록 운영되고 있다.

The program encourages young people to plan and carry out acts of giving themselves, helping them develop a stronger sense of community, compassion, and social responsibility.

#천수정 동해시 체육교육과장은 “청소년들이 감사와 배려를 직접 실천하며 지역사회와 함께 성장하는 의미 있는 시간이었다”며 “앞으로도 지역사회와 연계한 다양한 나눔 활동을 통해 청소년들이 건강한 시민으로 성장할 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 말했다.

Cheon Su-jeong, head of Donghae City’s Sports and Education Division, said, “It was a meaningful opportunity for our young people to put gratitude and consideration into action while growing together with their community. We will continue to actively support a variety of community-based volunteer programs so that our youth can grow into responsible and engaged citizens.”

A Special Christmas in the Middle of Summer

크리스마스는 꼭 12월에만 오는 것은 아니다.

누군가의 수고를 기억하고 “고맙습니다”라는 마음을 건네는 순간, 그날이 바로 작은 크리스마스가 될 수 있다.

Christmas does not have to come only in December.

Whenever we remember someone’s dedication and take the time to say “Thank you,” an ordinary day can become a little Christmas of its own.

동해의 청소년들이 직접 구운 파네토네와 따뜻한 응원 메시지에 담아 전한 것은 단순한 빵 한 조각이 아니었다. 지역사회의 안전을 지켜주는 이들을 향한 존중과 감사, 그리고 함께 살아가는 공동체의 마음이었다.

What the young people of Donghae delivered through their homemade panettone and heartfelt messages was more than a simple gift. It was an expression of respect, gratitude, and the spirit of a community that cares for one another.
