동해시, ‘해군1함대로’ 명예도로명 부여

동해시가 해군 제1함대 창설 80주년을 기념하고 지역사회 발전에 기여한 공로를 기리기 위해 관내 도로 4.1km 구간에 ‘해군1함대로’라는 명예도로명을 부여했다.

Donghae City has designated a 4.1-kilometer section of road as the honorary “ROK Navy 1st Fleet Road,” commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Korea Navy’s 1st Fleet and recognizing its longstanding contributions to the local community.

해군 제1함대는 1946년 묵호기지로 창설된 이후 80년간 동해를 지켜온 핵심 전력으로, 의료봉사와 함정 공개행사 등 다양한 대민 지원과 지역 상생 활동을 이어오며 동해시 발전에도 함께해 왔다.

Since its establishment as the Mukho Naval Base in 1946, the ROK Navy 1st Fleet has served as a key force safeguarding Korea’s eastern waters for 80 years. Beyond its national defense mission, the Fleet has maintained close ties with the community through medical outreach, public ship tours, and various community support programs, contributing to the development of Donghae City.

명예도로명은 기존 도로명과 별도로 부여하는 상징적 명칭으로, 법정 주소는 기존 도로명인 해안로·용정로·대동로를 그대로 사용한다.

An honorary road name is a symbolic designation given in addition to an existing official road name. Accordingly, legal addresses along the designated section will remain unchanged, continuing to use the existing road names of Haean-ro, Yongjeong-ro, and Daedong-ro.

대상 구간은 하평해변 앞 삼거리부터 송정동 군항 입구까지 해군 제1함대사령부를 연결하는 총 4.1km 구간이다.

The honorary road name applies to a 4.1-kilometer route stretching from the intersection in front of Hapyeong Beach to the entrance of the naval port in Songjeong-dong, connecting the area with the ROK Navy 1st Fleet Command.

동해시는 이번 명예도로명 부여를 계기로 해군과의 협력사업을 확대하고, ‘네이비시티 동해(Navy City Donghae)’ 비전도 단계적으로 구체화해 나갈 계획이다.

Building on the honorary road designation, Donghae City plans to further expand cooperative initiatives with the Navy and gradually develop its vision of “Navy City Donghae,” strengthening the city’s identity as a maritime and naval community.

#최용봉 민원과장은 “명예도로명은 해군 제1함대의 헌신과 지역사회 기여를 기억하는 상징”이라며 “동해시의 해양안보도시 이미지를 널리 알리는 계기가 되길 기대한다”고 말했다.

Choi Yong-bong, head of Donghae City’s Civil Affairs Division, said, “The honorary road name symbolizes our remembrance and appreciation of the ROK Navy 1st Fleet’s dedication and contributions to the local community. We hope this designation will also help promote Donghae City’s identity as a city of maritime security.”

1946년 묵호기지에서 시작된 해군 제1함대와 동해의 인연은 단순히 군과 도시의 관계를 넘어 80년의 역사를 함께 만들어온 동행이라 할 수 있다. ‘해군1함대로’라는 이름에는 동해바다를 지켜온 해군의 헌신과 군항도시 동해가 함께 걸어온 시간이 담겨 있다.

The relationship between Donghae and the ROK Navy 1st Fleet, which began with the establishment of the Mukho Naval Base in 1946, has grown beyond that of a military installation and its host city. It represents eight decades of shared history. The name “ROK Navy 1st Fleet Road” honors those who have safeguarded the East Sea and symbolizes the long journey shared by the Navy and the people of Donghae.

해군1함대로, 그 이름은 단순한 도로명이 아니라 동해시와 해군이 함께 써 내려온 80년 역사의 또 하나의 기록이다.

ROK Navy 1st Fleet Road is more than an honorary road name. It is another chapter in the 80-year story written together by Donghae City and the Republic of Korea Navy.
