동해시, ‘묵호 독(讀)점’ 상시 운영 확대… 책 읽는 상점 10곳으로 늘린다

동해시는 묵호권 일대의 독서문화 확산과 지역 상권 활성화를 위해 생활 밀착형 독서 프로그램인 ‘묵호 독(讀)점’을 시범운영에서 상시 운영으로 확대한다고 밝혔다.

Donghae City announced that it will expand its community-based reading initiative, ‘Mukho Reading Spots’, from a pilot project to a permanent program, aiming to promote reading culture while revitalizing local businesses in the Mukho area.

‘묵호 독(讀)점’은 발한도서관 소장 도서를 지역 상점에 비치해 시민과 관광객이 일상 속에서 자연스럽게 책을 접할 수 있도록 하는 사업이다. 시는 지난 3개월간의 시범운영 결과와 참여 상점 및 이용자 설문조사를 바탕으로 운영 방식을 보완해 본격적인 상시 운영에 들어간다.

The Mukho Reading Spots program places books from Balhan Library in neighborhood shops, allowing both residents and visitors to enjoy reading during their everyday routines. Based on the results of a three-month pilot project and feedback from participating businesses and users, the city has refined the program and will now operate it on a permanent basis.

이에 따라 기존 시범사업보다 규모를 확대해 묵호동 일원 10개 상점에 주제별 도서 30권씩을 비치하고, 매월 한 차례 도서를 교체해 다양한 독서 콘텐츠를 제공할 계획이다. 또한 독후 엽서 프로그램도 함께 운영해 시민들이 책을 매개로 생각과 감상을 나누는 문화공간을 만들어 갈 예정이다.

The expanded program will include ten local shops in Mukho, each stocked with thirty carefully selected books organized by theme. The book collections will be refreshed every month to provide new reading experiences. A “Reading Postcard” program will also encourage visitors to share their thoughts and reflections, helping transform neighborhood shops into welcoming cultural spaces.

최근 관광과 문화 콘텐츠로 활기를 더하고 있는 묵호권에 ‘묵호 독(讀)점’이 더해지면서, 상점을 찾는 시민과 관광객이 자연스럽게 책을 접하고 머무는 지역 특화 독서문화가 자리 잡을 것으로 기대된다.

As Mukho continues to gain popularity through tourism and cultural attractions, the Mukho Reading Spots initiative is expected to further enrich the area by creating unique reading-friendly spaces where people can pause, read, and enjoy the local atmosphere.
