내 삶의 터전을 찾아 떠나는 인문여행

도시는 단순히 건물과 도로로 이루어진 공간이 아니다. 그곳에는 수많은 사람들의 삶이 쌓여 있고, 시간이 남긴 이야기들이 켜켜이 스며 있다. 우리가 매일 걷는 골목과 바라보는 바다, 익숙한 항구와 산업시설에도 누군가의 꿈과 노동, 그리고 지역의 역사가 담겨 있다.

A city is more than a collection of buildings and roads. It is a living archive of human stories, memories, and dreams accumulated over generations. The alleys we walk through, the sea we gaze upon, and even familiar ports and industrial landscapes all carry traces of the people and histories that shaped them.

동해시 동해꿈빛마루도서관이 문화체육관광부가 주최하고 한국도서관협회와 한국문화예술교육진흥원이 주관하는 2026 「길 위의 인문학」 공모사업에 선정됐다. 시민들이 지역의 역사와 문화를 보다 깊이 이해하고 삶의 의미를 되새길 수 있는 특별한 인문여행이 마련된 것이다.

Donghae Dreambitmaru Library has been selected for the 2026 Humanities on the Road project, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and administered by the Korean Library Association and the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service. The program offers citizens a unique opportunity to explore local history and culture while reflecting on the meaning of their own lives.

「길 위의 인문학」은 지역이 품고 있는 역사와 문화, 사람들의 이야기를 인문학적 시선으로 재해석하는 전국 단위 사업이다. 강연과 현장 탐방을 통해 시민들은 익숙했던 공간을 새로운 눈으로 바라보고, 지역의 가치를 다시 발견하게 된다.

Humanities on the Road is a nationwide initiative that reinterprets local history, culture, and community stories through the lens of the humanities. Through lectures and field explorations, participants are encouraged to view familiar places from a fresh perspective and rediscover the hidden value of their communities.

올해 동해꿈빛마루도서관은 「내 삶의 터전을 찾아서 떠나는 여행」이라는 주제로 프로그램을 운영한다. 이번 인문여행은 단순한 역사 강좌가 아니다. 대한민국 산업화의 중요한 축이었던 지역 중화학산업의 발자취를 따라가고, 묵호가 지닌 시대적 의미를 되짚으며, 지역의 주요 사건과 인물들을 인문학적으로 조명하는 시간이다.

This year’s program, titled A Journey to Discover the Place I Call Home, goes beyond a traditional history lecture series. Participants will trace the footsteps of the heavy and chemical industries that contributed to Korea’s industrial development, revisit the historical significance of Mukho, and explore key local events and figures through a humanities-based perspective.

우리가 살고 있는 동해는 수많은 변화의 시간을 지나왔다. 석탄 산업의 전성기와 항구도시의 성장, 산업화와 지역공동체의 형성 과정은 오늘날 동해시의 정체성을 만들어낸 중요한 자산이다. 이번 프로그램은 그 시간을 단순히 배우는 것을 넘어, 현재를 살아가는 시민들이 자신의 삶과 지역의 미래를 함께 성찰하는 기회를 제공한다.

Donghae has witnessed remarkable transformations over the decades. From the golden age of the coal industry and the growth of its port economy to the formation of local communities during industrialization, these experiences have shaped the city’s identity. This program invites participants not only to learn about the past but also to reflect on their own lives and the future of the community they call home.

프로그램은 오는 7월 1일부터 매주 수요일 ‘문화가 있는 날’과 연계해 진행된다. 총 5회 과정으로 구성되며, 4회의 인문학 강연과 1회의 현장 탐방이 마련된다. 책 속 지식을 넘어 직접 현장을 걸으며 지역의 숨은 이야기를 만나는 시간이 될 전망이다.

Beginning on July 1, the program will be held every Wednesday in conjunction with Korea’s Culture Day. The five-session course includes four humanities lectures and one field trip, allowing participants to move beyond books and experience local history firsthand through on-site exploration.

모집 대상은 일반 시민 20명이며, 신청은 6월 15일부터 24일까지 동해시립도서관 홈페이지를 통해 선착순으로 진행된다. 인문학을 사랑하는 시민은 물론, 자신이 살아가는 지역을 더 깊이 이해하고 싶은 누구에게나 뜻깊은 시간이 될 것으로 기대된다.

Twenty citizens will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration will be available through the Donghae Municipal Library website from June 15 to June 24. The program is expected to offer a meaningful experience not only for humanities enthusiasts but also for anyone eager to gain a deeper understanding of the community they live in.

Kim Eun-seo, Director of Lifelong Learning, expressed hope that the program would help uncover and reinterpret local humanities resources, fostering civic pride and strengthening the community’s sense of identity.

어쩌면 가장 먼 여행은 낯선 곳으로 떠나는 여정이 아니라, 우리가 살고 있는 곳의 이야기를 새롭게 발견하는 일인지도 모른다. 이번 여름, 동해꿈빛마루도서관이 준비한 인문여행은 시민들에게 자신의 삶의 터전을 다시 바라보는 특별한 시간을 선물할 예정이다.

Perhaps the most meaningful journey is not one to a distant land, but one that helps us rediscover the stories of the place we already call home. This summer, Donghae Dreambitmaru Library’s humanities journey promises to offer citizens a special opportunity to reconnect with the history, identity, and meaning of their hometown.
