동해시가 제61회 강원특별자치도민체육대회 개막을 하루 앞두고 모든 준비를 마무리하며 선수단과 방문객 맞이에 나섰다.

이번 도민체전은 6월 12일부터 16일까지 5일간 개최되며, 선수와 임원 등 총 10,302명이 참가해 43개 종목에서 열띤 경쟁을 펼친다. 경기는 동해시를 포함한 도내 53개 경기장에서 진행된다.

동해시는 경기장 시설 정비를 비롯해 숙박·교통·안전 대책, 도시경관 개선, 자원봉사 운영 등 대회 전반에 걸친 준비를 완료했다. 특히 개회식 당일에는 천곡동 일원을 순환하는 셔틀버스를 운영해 방문객들의 이동 편의를 지원할 계획이다.

도시 분위기도 한층 새롭게 단장됐다. 주요 진입로와 경기장 주변에는 환영 현수막과 안내시설이 설치됐으며, 경관 개선사업을 통해 선수단과 관람객들에게 쾌적한 도시 이미지를 제공한다.

이번 대회는 스포츠와 관광이 결합된 체류형 축제로도 운영된다. 선수단과 방문객들은 무릉별유천지, 무릉계곡, 도째비골 스카이밸리 등 동해시 대표 관광지를 무료로 이용하며 지역의 아름다운 자연과 문화를 함께 즐길 수 있다.

개회식은 6월 12일 오후 5시 30분 동해종합경기장에서 개최된다. 선수단 입장과 개회선언 등 공식행사에 이어 가수 에일리, 김용빈, 나태주, 김연자의 축하공연과 1,000대 규모 드론라이트쇼가 펼쳐지며 화려한 개막을 알린다.

성화는 개회식 전날인 11일 시민 참여형 봉송을 통해 각 동을 순회한 뒤 시청 잔디광장에 안치되며, 개회식 당일 경기장 릴레이를 거쳐 최종 점화된다.

심규언 동해시장은 “도민체전은 시민 모두가 함께 만든 축제”라며 “선수단과 도민들이 안전하고 즐겁게 참여할 수 있도록 마지막까지 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

The 61st Gangwon State Sports Festival Set to Begin

Donghae City has completed all preparations for the 61st Gangwon State Sports Festival and is ready to welcome athletes, officials, and visitors from across the province.

The five-day event will take place from June 12 to June 16, bringing together 10,302 participants, including athletes and team officials. Competitions will be held in 43 sports across 53 venues throughout Gangwon Province.

To ensure a successful event, Donghae City has finalized upgrades to sports facilities and implemented comprehensive plans covering accommodation, transportation, safety, volunteer services, and city beautification. Shuttle buses will operate around the Cheongok-dong area on the opening day to improve accessibility for visitors.

The city has also enhanced its urban landscape with welcome banners, improved signage, and beautification projects along major roads and around competition venues, creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests.

Beyond sports, the festival is designed as a tourism-linked event. Participants and visitors will enjoy free admission to major attractions such as Mureung Byeollyucheonji, Mureung Valley, and Dokkaebi Gol Sky Valley, encouraging longer stays and greater regional engagement.

The opening ceremony will be held at Donghae Sports Complex on June 12 at 5:30 p.m. The program will feature the athletes’ parade, official opening declaration, special performances by Ailee, Kim Yong-bin, Na Tae-joo, and Kim Yeon-ja, followed by a spectacular drone light show featuring 1,000 drones.

The ceremonial torch will travel through all districts of Donghae City on June 11 as part of a citizen-participation relay before being displayed at City Hall. On opening day, it will complete a final relay around the stadium track before lighting the cauldron.

Mayor Shim Gyu-eon expressed confidence in the event, stating that the festival represents the collective efforts of the entire city and will serve as a celebration of unity, sportsmanship, and community spirit for all participants and residents.
