“보수 아성 영동권에 ‘강삼영 바람’… 젊은 유세단과 함께 판세 흔들다”

강삼영 강원도교육감 후보가 공식선거운동 첫 주말, 영동권 전역을 누비며 강한 존재감을 드러냈다. 강릉·동해·삼척·속초·양양 등 이른바 ‘보수 강세 지역’으로 분류되는 영동권에서 젊고 역동적인 선거운동을 펼치며 선거 판세에 새로운 바람을 일으키고 있다는 평가가 나온다.

강 후보는 23일 동해 북평장과 삼척 장미공원에서 중앙 유세단과 함께 집중 유세를 진행했다. 특히 20대 초반 청년들로 구성된 중앙유세단 ‘강바람’은 기존 교육감 선거에서는 보기 어려웠던 역동적인 춤과 노래, 퍼포먼스를 선보이며 시민들의 시선을 사로잡았다. 전통시장과 거리 곳곳에서는 유세 음악에 맞춰 시민들이 함께 손을 흔들고 사진을 촬영하는 모습도 이어졌다.

강 후보 역시 직접 율동에 참여하고 마이크를 잡고 시민들과 호흡하며 “모든 아이들이 빛나는 강원교육”을 강조했다. 기존의 무겁고 형식적인 교육감 선거 이미지에서 벗어나 보다 젊고 친근한 방식으로 유권자들에게 다가가고 있다는 점에서 현장 반응도 적지 않았다는 분석이다.

24일에는 속초와 양양을 중심으로 유세가 이어졌다. 강 후보는 부처님오신날을 맞아 속초 신흥사 봉축법회에 참석한 뒤 양양 전통시장과 속초 시내 곳곳을 돌며 시민들과 직접 인사를 나눴다. 이어 속초 수복탑 회전교차로와 속초광장, 이마트 사거리에서는 ‘파란을 일으키자’를 주제로 한 대규모 거리 유세가 펼쳐지며 눈길을 끌었다.

특히 이날 유세에서는 세 개의 유세단이 동시에 합류해 대형 거리 퍼포먼스를 진행하며 현장 분위기를 끌어올렸다. 교육감 선거에서는 보기 드문 젊은 선거문화가 형성되면서 시민들의 발길이 이어졌고, SNS와 온라인 커뮤니티에서도 관련 영상과 사진이 빠르게 확산되고 있다.

강 후보의 이색 퍼포먼스도 화제가 됐다. 강 후보는 동해 바닷가에서 사전투표 참여를 독려하기 위한 ‘바다 잠수 이벤트’를 진행했다. 앞서 번지점프 퍼포먼스에 이어 두 번째 투표 독려 이벤트다. 다소 파격적인 방식이지만 “젊은 교육감”, “행동하는 후보” 이미지를 각인시키려는 전략이라는 해석이 나온다.

정치권 안팎에서는 이번 영동권 유세가 단순한 지역 순회를 넘어 강삼영 후보 특유의 젊고 역동적인 선거 전략을 상징적으로 보여줬다는 평가가 나온다. 특히 전통적으로 보수 성향이 강한 영동권에서 교육 이슈와 세대 공감 전략을 결합한 선거운동이 어떤 결과로 이어질지 관심이 모아지고 있다.

강 후보는 25일 춘천과 화천 지역 유세를 이어간 뒤, TV토론 준비에 집중할 계획이다.

강삼영, candidate for Superintendent of Education in Gangwon Province, drew significant attention during the first official campaign weekend by touring major cities across the Yeongdong region, including Gangneung, Donghae, Samcheok, Sokcho, and Yangyang.

Often regarded as a conservative stronghold, the Yeongdong region witnessed an unusually energetic and youthful style of campaigning that many observers say is reshaping the atmosphere of the election.

On Saturday, Kang held major campaign rallies at Bukpyeong Market in Donghae and Rose Park in Samcheok alongside his central campaign team. The group, called “Gang Baram” (“Kang Wind”), is composed mainly of young people in their early twenties and has quickly become a talking point for its dynamic dance performances, music, and energetic street campaigning.

Citizens gathered around the rallies, taking photos and waving along to the campaign music — a rare scene for what has traditionally been considered a relatively quiet and formal superintendent election.

Kang himself joined the choreography, took the microphone, and directly appealed to voters, emphasizing his vision of “schools where every child can shine.” Political observers noted that his campaign style contrasts sharply with the conventional image of education elections, presenting him instead as a youthful and approachable candidate.

On Sunday, Kang continued his campaign across Sokcho and Yangyang. After attending a Buddha’s Birthday ceremony at Sinheungsa, he visited traditional markets and downtown streets to greet local residents face-to-face.

Later that day, large-scale street rallies under the slogan “Let’s Create a Blue Wave” were held at major intersections and public squares in Sokcho. Three campaign teams joined forces for synchronized performances that drew crowds and generated strong reactions both offline and on social media.

Kang also attracted attention through an unusual voter-participation performance. At a beach in Donghae, he staged a “sea diving event” to encourage early voting participation. The event followed a previous bungee-jumping performance and was interpreted as part of his strategy to reinforce an image of a bold, action-oriented, and younger-generation candidate.

Political analysts say the Yeongdong campaign tour highlighted Kang’s unconventional election strategy and demonstrated how youth culture and emotional engagement are increasingly influencing local education politics in Gangwon Province.

Kang is scheduled to continue campaigning in Chuncheon and Hwacheon before focusing on an upcoming televised debate.
