ITTF 창립 100주년 현장에서 체결식... 대회 준비 체계 한층 공고

Signing Ceremony Held at ITTF 100th Anniversary Venue… Strengthening the Foundation for Tournament Preparation

강릉시는 ‘XIOM 2026 강릉세계마스터즈탁구선수권대회’ 개최 계약 체결식이 5월 6일 오후(현지시간) 영국 런던 힐튼호텔에서 진행됐다고 밝혔다.

 The city of Gangneung announced that the official hosting agreement signing ceremony for the XIOM 2026 Gangneung World Masters Table Tennis Championships was held on May 6 (local time) at the Hilton Hotel in London, United Kingdom.

이번 계약 체결식은 국제탁구연맹(ITTF)과 대회 조직위원회 간 개최 권한 및 운영 전반에 관한 사항을 공식 문서로 확정하고, 양측의 역할과 협력 체계를 명확히 하기 위해 마련됐다.

 The ceremony was organized to officially confirm, through formal documentation, the hosting rights and overall operational responsibilities between the International Table Tennis Federation and the tournament organizing committee, while clearly defining the roles and cooperative framework of both parties.

체결식에는 조직위원회 공동위원장인 이태성 대한탁구협회장과 페트라 쇠링 국제탁구연맹 회장이 참석해 계약서에 공식 서명했다. 행사는 양측 대표의 인사에 이어 서명식, 기념 촬영 순으로 간결하게 진행됐으며 대회 마스코트 ‘장자’, ‘각시’와 함께 기념 촬영을 끝으로 마무리 됐다.

 The signing ceremony was attended by Lee Tae-sung, co-chair of the organizing committee and president of the Korea Table Tennis Association, along with Petra Sörling, president of the ITTF, who officially signed the agreement.

The event proceeded in a concise format with greetings from both representatives, the signing ceremony, and commemorative photographs, concluding with a photo session alongside the tournament mascots “Jangja” and “Gaksi.”

특히 이번 체결식은 국제탁구연맹 창립 100주년을 기념하는 ‘2026 ITTF 세계탁구선수권대회 단체전 파이널스’가 열리고 있는 현지에서 진행돼 의미를 더했다. 세계 정상급 선수들이 경쟁하는 상징적인 무대에서 생활체육 중심의 세계 마스터즈 대회 준비가 함께 구체화되며, 국제탁구계의 두 축이 이어지는 흐름 속에서 2026 강릉세계마스터즈탁구선수권대회 대한 관심과 기대감도 한층 높아지고 있다.

The significance of the ceremony was heightened as it took place during the 2026 ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals, held in celebration of the ITTF’s 100th anniversary.

As preparations for the World Masters event progressed alongside one of the most symbolic stages in global table tennis—where elite athletes compete—the connection between professional and amateur table tennis further elevated global anticipation and interest in the 2026 Gangneung championships.

#이태성 조직위원장은 “세계 탁구의 역사를 상징하는 현장에서 뜻깊은 서명을 할 수 있어 기쁘고 영광스럽다”라며, “강릉에서도 런던 세계선수권대회 못지않은 멋진 대회가 될 수 있도록 준비에 만전을 기하겠다.”라고 밝혔다.

 Organizing Committee Co-Chair Lee Tae-sung stated,

“It is both a pleasure and an honor to sign this meaningful agreement at a venue symbolizing the history of world table tennis. We will do our utmost to ensure that Gangneung hosts an event just as outstanding as the World Championships in London.”

페트라 쇠링 국제탁구연맹 회장은 “강릉에서 또 하나의 멋지고 화려한 이벤트가 기다리고 있다는 것을 알고 있다.”라며, “선수로서 직접 참가하는 만큼 강릉에서의 경험이 기대된다.”라고 말했다.

 ITTF President Petra Sörling commented,

“I know another spectacular and exciting event awaits in Gangneung. As I will personally participate as a player, I am truly looking forward to the experience in Gangneung.”

 Choi Sang-bo, Director of the Sports Division for Gangneung, added,

“We will work closely with the organizing committee and related institutions to support the successful hosting of the tournament. We are fully committed to ensuring that both domestic and international participants can enjoy sports and tourism together while visiting Gangneung.”

한편 ‘XIOM 2026 강릉세계마스터즈탁구선수권대회’는 전 세계 생활체육 탁구 동호인들이 참가하는 국제 스포츠 축제로, 2026년 6월 5일부터 12일까지 강릉 올림픽파크 일원에서 개최될 예정이다.

 Meanwhile, the XIOM 2026 Gangneung World Masters Table Tennis Championships is an international sports festival for amateur table tennis enthusiasts from around the world and is scheduled to take place from June 5 to June 12, 2026, at the Gangneung Olympic Park area.
