강원특별자치도 동해시가 오는 5월 9일부터 10일까지 이틀간 망상해변 일원에서 국제 트레일러닝 대회 「2026 동해 스카이레이스(Donghae Sky Race 2026)」를 개최한다.

동해시 will host the international trail running event “Donghae Sky Race 2026” from May 9 to 10 around Mangsang Beach for two exciting days of competition and festival programs.

이번 대회는 바다와 산을 동시에 품은 동해만의 독창적인 자연환경 속에서 펼쳐지는 국내 대표 트레일러닝 축제로, 전국은 물론 해외 참가자들의 관심까지 끌며 명실상부한 글로벌 스포츠 관광 콘텐츠로 성장하고 있다.

The race has grown into one of Korea’s premier trail running festivals, showcasing Donghae’s unique landscape where mountains meet the sea, while attracting runners not only from across Korea but also from overseas.

산불 극복의 상징에서 국제대회로 성장

From Wildfire Recovery Symbol to International Race

동해 스카이레이스는 대형 산불로 피해를 입은 동해안 지역 경제에 활력을 불어넣기 위해 지난 2023년 처음 시작됐다.

The Donghae Sky Race was first launched in 2023 to help revive the East Coast region following devastating wildfires.

‘선한 영향력으로 지역을 살리자’는 취지로 출발한 이 대회는 해를 거듭할수록 참가 규모와 인지도를 키우며 올해 4회째를 맞았다.

What began as a meaningful campaign to support local communities through sports has steadily expanded in both scale and reputation, marking its fourth edition this year.

첫 대회 당시 800명이 참가했던 대회는 올해 42km·21km·11km 등 3개 종목에 총 2,200명이 참가하는 대규모 국제 트레일러닝 대회로 성장했다.

From 800 participants in its inaugural year, the race has now evolved into a major international trail running event featuring three categories — 42km, 21km, and 11km — with approximately 2,200 runners expected this year.

“바다를 보며 달리는 특별한 레이스”

이번 대회는 ㈜굿러너컴퍼니가 주최·주관하며, 동해의 해안 절경과 산악 지형을 동시에 경험할 수 있는 특별한 코스로 구성된다.

Organized by Good Runner Company, the race offers a one-of-a-kind course combining breathtaking coastal scenery with dynamic mountain terrain.

참가자들은 푸른 동해 바다를 배경으로 숲길과 능선을 달리며, 도시에서는 경험할 수 없는 자연 속 레이스의 매력을 만끽하게 된다.

Participants will run through forest trails and mountain ridges overlooking the East Sea, experiencing the thrill of nature-based racing rarely found in urban environments.

특히 초보 러너부터 전문 트레일러너까지 누구나 도전할 수 있도록 난이도별 코스를 운영해 스포츠와 관광을 함께 즐길 수 있는 축제형 대회로 기대를 모으고 있다.

With courses tailored for everyone from beginners to elite athletes, the event is expected to become a festival-style sports tourism attraction where participants can enjoy both competition and travel.

가족과 함께 즐기는 축제 프로그램도 풍성

Family-Friendly Festival Programs Added

본대회 전날인 9일에는 키즈레이스와 요가 프로그램, 매직버블쇼 등 가족 단위 방문객을 위한 다채로운 사전 이벤트가 열린다.

On May 9, the day before the main race, a variety of family-friendly programs including a kids’ race, yoga sessions, and a magic bubble show will take place.

이어 10일에는 42km·21km·11km 본 경기가 본격적으로 펼쳐지며, 전국 각지의 러너들이 동해의 자연을 무대로 뜨거운 레이스를 이어갈 예정이다.

The main races on May 10 will feature runners from across the country competing against the stunning natural backdrop of Donghae.

“참가자들이 안전하고 즐겁게 대회를 즐길 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Lee Jin-hwa, Director of Tourism, said,

“What started as a race with positive social impact is now becoming one of Donghae’s signature tourism events. We will do our best to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.”

동해시는 이번 대회를 통해 스포츠 관광 활성화는 물론 지역 상권과 숙박·외식업계에도 큰 활력을 불어넣을 것으로 기대하고 있다.

The city expects the event to further boost sports tourism while bringing positive economic effects to local businesses, accommodations, and restaurants.
