동해시, “걷고 싶은 도시로”… 도민체전 앞두고 거리·녹지정비 본격화

Donghae City Accelerates Street & Green Space Upgrades Ahead of Provincial Sports Festival, Aiming to Become a “Walkable City”

동해시가 도민체전을 앞두고 도시 전반의 녹지와 가로환경을 대대적으로 정비하며 ‘걷고 싶은 도시’ 조성에 속도를 내고 있다.

Donghae City is accelerating efforts to become a “walkable city” by carrying out large-scale improvements to green spaces and streetscapes across the city ahead of the Provincial Sports Festival.

시는 시민과 방문객 모두가 체감할 수 있는 쾌적한 보행환경과 도시경관 개선을 위해 도로변 수목 정비와 녹지 관리, 계절꽃 식재 등 가로환경 정비사업을 본격 추진 중이라고 밝혔다.

The city announced that it is actively promoting streetscape improvement projects, including roadside tree maintenance, green space management, and seasonal flower planting, to create a pleasant walking environment and enhance the urban landscape for both residents and visitors.

이번 정비는 ▲용정굴다리~감추사 ▲하평해변 철도변 ▲평릉로터리~초구 ▲단봉동 삼척시 경계 등 주요 관문과 생활권 중심 구간을 중심으로 진행되며, 시민 이용도가 높은 구간부터 우선적으로 개선이 이뤄지고 있다.

The upgrades focus on key gateway and high-traffic areas, including Yongjeong Underpass to Gamchu Temple, the railway area near Happyeong Beach, Pyeongneung Rotary to Chogu, and the boundary area of Danbong-dong with Samcheok. Priority is being given to sections with high public usage.

특히 동해웰빙레포츠타운 일원과 성화봉송로를 비롯한 주요 도로변과 관광지 화단에는 가로수 정비와 계절꽃 식재, 녹지대 제초 작업이 집중 추진된다.

In particular, intensive maintenance is underway in areas such as Donghae Well-being Leisure Sports Town and the torch relay route, where roadside trees are being pruned, seasonal flowers planted, and green areas weeded.

이와 함께 국도 7호선과 38호선, 천곡 중앙로, 망상해수욕장 일대 등 주요 노선에서도 수목 전지와 녹지 정비가 병행되고 있다.

Tree pruning and green space maintenance are also being carried out along major routes, including National Routes 7 and 38, Cheongok Jungang-ro, and the Mangsan Beach area.

도시 미관 개선을 위한 경관 정비도 함께 추진된다. 망상톨게이트 일원 옹벽 경관개선을 비롯해 주요 도로변 옹벽 세척, 불법 광고물 정비가 지속적으로 이뤄지고 있으며, 체전 기간에는 불법 광고물 집중 점검도 실시할 계획이다.

Landscape improvement projects are also in progress to enhance the city’s appearance. These include retaining wall beautification near the Mangsan Tollgate, cleaning roadside walls, and removing illegal advertisements. Intensive inspections will be conducted during the festival period.

야간 안전 확보에도 힘을 쏟는다. 시는 가로등, 보안등, 공원등 등 총 16,674개 조명시설을 대상으로 수시 점검을 실시해 야간 보행 환경을 한층 강화하고 있다.

The city is also strengthening nighttime safety by conducting regular inspections of a total of 16,674 lighting facilities, including streetlights, security lights, and park lights, to ensure a safer walking environment at night.

이와 함께 5월 중 동해시 경계 구간에는 꽃 조형물을 설치하고, 시가지 전반의 녹지 정비를 지속 추진해 도민체전 기간 방문객에게 깨끗하고 생동감 있는 도시 이미지를 제공할 방침이다.

Additionally, flower sculptures will be installed at city boundary areas in May, and ongoing green space maintenance across the city will continue to present a clean and vibrant image to visitors during the Provincial Sports Festival.
