강릉시의 대표적인 야간 관광 명소인 ‘2026 월화거리야시장’이 오는 5월 1일(금)부터 개장하여 본격적인 운영에 들어간다.

The “2026 Wolhwa Street Night Market,” one of Gangneung’s 대표 night tourism attractions, will officially open on Friday, May 1, and begin full-scale operations.

올해로 4년 차를 맞이한 월화거리야시장은 최근 중동 리스크 등으로 위축된 소비 심리 속에서 침체된 전통시장과 지역경제에 새로운 활력을 불어넣고자, 지난해보다 한층 더 내실 있고 체계적인 모습으로 시민과 관광객을 맞이할 예정이다.

Now in its fourth year, the Wolhwa Street Night Market aims to revitalize the sluggish traditional markets and local economy amid weakened consumer sentiment caused by global uncertainties such as Middle East risks. This year, it will welcome citizens and visitors with a more refined and systematic operation than ever before.

특히 올해는 2026 강릉세계마스터즈탁구선수권대회(6.5.~6.12.)와 2026 강릉 ITS 세계총회(10.19.~10.23.)를 앞두고, 강릉을 찾는 국내외 방문객들에게 보다 편리하고 쾌적한 야시장 환경을 제공할 계획이다. 외국인 관광객을 위해 영문 메뉴판을 비치하고, 취식 공간을 확대해 이용 만족도를 높일 방침이다.

In particular, ahead of the 2026 Gangneung World Masters Table Tennis Championships (June 5–12) and the 2026 ITS World Congress (October 19–23), the city plans to provide a more convenient and pleasant night market environment for both domestic and international visitors. English menus will be available for foreign tourists, and dining areas will be expanded to enhance visitor satisfaction.

야시장은 5월 1일(금)부터 10월 31일(토)까지 매주 금요일과 토요일 오후 6시부터 11시까지 운영된다. 다만 우천 시에는 안전사고 예방을 위해 휴장하며, 운영 여부는 중앙·성남시장 인스타그램과 현수막 등을 통해 안내할 예정이다.

The night market will run every Friday and Saturday from 6 PM to 11 PM, from May 1 to October 31. However, it will be closed in case of rain for safety reasons, with updates provided via the Central and Seongnam Market Instagram accounts and on-site banners.

아울러 운영의 체계성과 안전성도 한층 강화했다. 강릉시는 올해 초 운영 협약서를 전면 정비하고, 운영자 대상 오리엔테이션과 맞춤형 컨설팅을 통해 먹거리 품질 향상에 힘썼다. 또한 4월 24일에는 현장 리허설과 가스·전기·시설물에 대한 합동 점검을 실시했다.

In addition, operational systems and safety measures have been further strengthened. Earlier this year, Gangneung City revised its operation agreements, conducted orientations for vendors, and provided customized consulting to improve food quality. On April 24, a full rehearsal and joint inspections of gas, electricity, and facilities were also carried out.

총 41개 매대가 운영되며, 식품 매대 21개와 프리마켓 20개로 구성된다. 식품 매대에서는 꼬치류, 볶음면, 스테이크, 감자와플, 새우타코, 불족발, 수제버거, 츄러스 등 다양한 먹거리를 선보이며, 프리마켓에서는 캐리커쳐, 타로, 솜사탕, 액세서리, 공예품, 약과, 과일주스 등을 판매한다.

A total of 41 booths will be operated, including 21 food stalls and 20 flea market booths. Food stalls will offer a wide variety of items such as skewers, stir-fried noodles, steaks, potato waffles, shrimp tacos, spicy pig’s feet, handmade burgers, and churros. The flea market will feature caricatures, tarot readings, cotton candy, accessories, crafts, traditional sweets, and fresh fruit juices.

#배봉식 성남시장상인회장은 “4년 차를 맞아 더욱 성숙해진 월화거리야시장이 지역 상인들에게는 희망을, 방문객들에게는 특별한 추억을 선물할 것”이라며 “내외국인 누구나 편안하게 즐길 수 있는 야시장을 만들겠다”고 말했다.

Bae Bong-sik, head of the Seongnam Market Merchants Association, stated, “Now in its fourth year, the Wolhwa Street Night Market has become more mature and will offer hope to local merchants and special memories to visitors. We will create a market that both locals and foreigners can comfortably enjoy.”

Kim Hyun-kyung, head of Gangneung City’s Small Business Division, said, “With major international events scheduled this year, we will thoroughly prepare so that visitors can fully experience the charm of the old downtown, the vibrancy of the market, and Gangneung’s unique warm night culture.”
