동해시는 27일 망상동 511번지 일원에서 올해 첫 모내기를 실시하며 본격적인 영농철의 시작을 알렸다고 밝혔다.

Donghae City announced that it has begun this year’s first rice transplanting on April 27 in the area of 511 Mangsang-dong, marking the official start of the farming season.

모내기 적기는 5월 1일부터 25일까지로, 밥맛이 우수한 ‘삼광’을 비롯해 햅쌀용 ‘해들’·‘성산이’와 찹쌀용 ‘고향찰’ 등을 주요 품종으로 재배한다.

 The optimal rice transplanting period is from May 1 to May 25. Major rice varieties include “Samgwang,” known for its excellent taste, as well as “Haedeul” and “Seongsani” for new rice, and “Gohyangchal” for glutinous rice.

시는 망상동 일대 약 9ha 규모에 ‘수평선 햅쌀’ 단지를 조성해 약 45톤의 햅쌀을 생산할 계획이다. 생산된 쌀은 추석 전 4kg·10kg 포장으로 선물용 및 제수용으로 판매될 예정이다.

 The city plans to establish a 9-hectare “Horizon New Rice” complex in the Mangsang-dong area, producing approximately 45 tons of new rice. The harvested rice will be packaged in 4kg and 10kg units and sold as gifts and for ceremonial use ahead of Chuseok.

이와 함께 약 40ha 규모의 친환경쌀 생산단지를 통해 생산된 쌀은 지역농협이 수매한 뒤 관내 유치원과 초·중·고교 학교급식용으로 연중 공급될 예정이다. 이를 통해 지역에서 생산된 쌀을 지역 학생들이 소비하는 먹거리 선순환 체계를 구축한다는 방침이다.

 In addition, rice produced from a 40-hectare eco-friendly rice production complex will be purchased by the local agricultural cooperative and supplied year-round to kindergartens and elementary, middle, and high schools in the area. This initiative aims to establish a sustainable local food cycle where locally produced rice is consumed by local students.

#박현주 농업기술센터 소장은 “이번 첫 모내기는 ‘수평선 햅쌀’ 브랜드와 친환경 학교급식용 쌀 생산의 출발점이라는 점에서 의미가 크다”며 “적기 모내기와 체계적인 영농지도를 통해 고품질 쌀 생산 기반을 강화해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

 Park Hyun-joo, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, stated, “This first rice transplanting is meaningful as it marks the starting point for both the ‘Horizon New Rice’ brand and eco-friendly rice production for school meals. We will strengthen the foundation for producing high-quality rice through timely transplanting and systematic farming guidance.”
