“다름을 이해하는 하루, 손끝으로 느끼는 공감”

손끝의 감각을 통해 서로를 이해하는 깊은 공감으로 이어졌다. 

원주교육지원청(교육장 김성진)은 4월 20일 교육청 1층 로비에서 ‘다름을 이해하고, 손끝으로 느끼는 공감’을 주제로 제46회 장애인의 날 기념행사를 따뜻한 분위기 속에 개최했다.

이번 행사는 ‘짝짝이 양말 캠페인’과 ‘점자 책갈피 만들기 체험’으로 구성되어, 참여자들이 자연스럽게 장애에 대한 이해와 공감을 넓히는 시간을 가졌다.

‘짝짝이 양말 캠페인’은 서로 다른 양말을 신는 작은 실천을 통해 다양성과 포용의 가치를 상징적으로 표현한 프로그램이다. 특히 다운증후군의 원인이 되는 21번 염색체의 특징을 알리고, 사회적 편견을 허물며 서로의 다름을 존중하는 메시지를 전했다.

또한 ‘점자 책갈피 만들기 체험’은 시각장애인의 문자 체계인 점자의 원리를 직접 배우고 체험하는 프로그램으로, 참여자들은 손끝으로 글을 읽는 경험을 통해 ‘읽을 권리’의 소중함과 타인의 삶에 대한 깊은 공감을 나누었다.

행사에 참여한 직원들의 인증사진 전시와 감상문 작성 프로그램도 함께 운영되어, 장애에 대한 이해를 일회성 체험에 그치지 않고 지속적인 인식 개선으로 이어가는 계기를 마련했다.

#김성진 교육장은 “이번 행사는 서로의 다름을 이해하고 존중하는 뜻깊은 시간이었다”며 “직원 모두가 함께 참여하며 장애에 대한 인식을 넓히고, 교육공동체가 지향해야 할 포용의 가치를 다시금 되새기는 계기가 되었다”고 말했다.

이어 “이러한 공감의 문화가 일상 속에서도 자연스럽게 이어지기를 기대하며, 앞으로도 장애 공감 문화 확산을 위해 지속적으로 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Wonju Office of Education Holds 46th Disability Awareness Day Event

The Wonju Office of Education, led by Superintendent Kim Sung-jin, held a warm and meaningful event on April 20 in celebration of the 46th Disability Awareness Day at the office lobby.

Under the theme “Understanding Differences and Feeling Empathy Through Touch,” the event featured activities designed to naturally foster awareness and empathy toward people with disabilities.

One of the key programs, the “Mismatched Socks Campaign,” symbolized diversity and inclusion by encouraging participants to wear different socks. The campaign also aimed to raise awareness about Down syndrome, linked to an extra copy of chromosome 21, while promoting respect and reducing social prejudice.

Another activity, the “Braille Bookmark Making Experience,” provided participants with a hands-on opportunity to learn about Braille, the writing system used by visually impaired individuals. Through this tactile experience, participants reflected on the importance of the right to read and developed a deeper understanding of others’ daily lives.

In addition, a photo exhibition and reflection-writing program allowed participants to share their experiences, helping to extend disability awareness beyond a one-time event into lasting understanding.

Superintendent Kim Sung-jin stated, “This event was a meaningful opportunity to understand and respect each other’s differences. It allowed all staff members to broaden their awareness of disabilities and reaffirm the values of an inclusive educational community.”

He added, “We hope this culture of empathy continues in everyday life, and we will continue our efforts to promote disability awareness and inclusion.”
