교실을 넘어, 세계를 품다 강원특별자치도교육청국제교육원 ‘세계시민교육 선도교사 연수’ 현장

 봄비가 조용히 스며들던 4월의 어느 날, 교사들이 다시 ‘학생’이 되었다.

강원특별자치도교육청국제교육원에서 열린 ‘2026년 세계시민교육 선도교사 역량강화 연수’ 현장이다.

이틀, 단 10시간.

시간으로 보면 짧지만, 그 안에 담긴 고민과 질문은 결코 가볍지 않았다.

“우리는 아이들에게 어떤 세계를 가르쳐야 하는가.”

이번 연수는 단순한 전달식 교육이 아니었다.

교사들은 강의실에 앉아 듣는 사람이 아니라, 토론하고 나누며 함께 만들어가는 ‘실천자’였다.

세계시민교육은 이제 하나의 과목이 아니라,

교실을 관통하는 ‘태도’이자 ‘시선’이다.

전쟁의 폐해를 이야기할 때도, 다문화 학생과의 교류를 고민할 때도,

교사들은 더 이상 정답을 전달하는 사람이 아니라 질문을 던지는 사람이 되어야 한다.

연수에서는 세계시민교육의 흐름과 국제사회의 변화,

다문화 국가와의 교육 교류 사례,

그리고 무엇보다 교실에서 바로 활용할 수 있는 실제 수업 사례가 공유되었다.

특히 눈길을 끈 것은 AI를 활용한 세계시민교육이었다.

기술은 차갑지만, 그것을 사용하는 교육은 따뜻해야 한다는 메시지.

교사들은 AI를 ‘도구’가 아닌 ‘관점 확장’의 수단으로 받아들이기 시작했다.

무엇보다 의미 있었던 것은 ‘연결’이었다.

중앙과 시·도를 아우르는 선도교사 40여 명이

각자의 교실을 넘어 하나의 네트워크로 이어졌다.

이제 이들은 각자의 학교로 돌아가

또 다른 교사와 학생들을 연결하는 ‘작은 시작점’이 된다.

한 교사는 이렇게 말했다.

“세계시민교육은 거창한 이야기가 아니라,

아이들의 일상 속에서 시작된다고 생각합니다.”

짧은 연수는 끝났지만,

그들이 만들어갈 변화는 이제부터다.

교실 안에서 시작된 작은 질문 하나가,

언젠가는 세상을 바꾸는 힘이 될지도 모른다.

Beyond the Classroom, Embracing the World

Global Citizenship Education Teacher Training in Gangwon

On a quiet April day touched by spring rain,

teachers became students once again.

At the International Education Institute of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education,

a two-day training program for leading teachers in global citizenship education unfolded.

Ten hours in total.

A short time, perhaps—

but filled with questions that carry real weight:

“What kind of world should we teach our students about?”

This was not a passive lecture.

Teachers were not there to simply listen—

they discussed, collaborated, and created together as practitioners.

Global citizenship education is no longer just a subject.

It is a way of thinking, a lens through which the classroom is redefined.

When discussing war,

when engaging with multicultural students,

teachers are no longer just providers of answers—

they are facilitators of meaningful questions.

The program covered the evolution of global citizenship education,

international perspectives,

cross-cultural exchange cases,

and most importantly, practical classroom applications.

One particularly compelling topic was

the use of AI in global citizenship education.

Technology may be cold,

but education must remain warm.

Teachers began to see AI not merely as a tool,

but as a way to expand perspectives.

Yet perhaps the most meaningful outcome was connection.

Around 40 leading teachers—from national and regional levels—

came together to form a collaborative network

that extends beyond individual classrooms.

Now, they return to their schools

as starting points of change—

connecting colleagues, inspiring students.

As one teacher shared:

“Global citizenship education doesn’t start with big ideas—

it begins in the everyday lives of our students.”

The training may have ended,

but the real journey has just begun.

A single question raised in a classroom

may one day change the world.
