“운전대 내려놓으면 20만원”…동해시, 고령운전자 면허 반납 ‘파격 지원’

동해시는 고령운전자의 교통사고 예방과 안전한 교통환경 조성을 위해 운전면허 자진 반납 인센티브를 최대 20만 원까지 지원한다고 밝혔다.

Donghae City announced that it will provide up to 200,000 KRW in incentives for senior drivers who voluntarily surrender their driver’s licenses, aiming to prevent traffic accidents and create a safer road environment.

기존 운전면허 반납자에게 일괄 10만 원을 지원하던 방식에서 2배 확대하여 반납자에게 기본 10만 원을 지원하고, 65세 이후 실제 운전 사실이 확인된 경우에는 추가 10만 원을 지원해 최대 20만 원까지 확대 지급할 계획이다.

Previously, a flat 100,000 KRW was provided to those surrendering their licenses. Under the new policy, the amount has been doubled: 100,000 KRW is given as a base incentive, with an additional 100,000 KRW provided if actual driving activity after age 65 is confirmed, totaling up to 200,000 KRW.

지난해에는 264명이 운전면허를 반납했으며, 올해는 205명 반납을 목표로 추진할 계획이다.

Last year, 264 individuals surrendered their driver’s licenses, and the city aims to achieve 205 voluntary surrenders this year.

동해시 고령자는 2만 2,909명이며, 이 중 고령운전자 면허소지자는 1만 1,056명으로 전년 대비 약 9.7% 증가했다.

Donghae City has 22,909 senior citizens, of whom 11,056 hold driver’s licenses—an increase of approximately 9.7% compared to the previous year.

지원 대상은 동해시에 거주하는 65세 이상 운전면허 소지자로, 유효한 운전면허증을 지참해 거주지 동 행정복지센터에서 신청할 수 있다.

Eligible applicants are residents of Donghae City aged 65 or older who possess a valid driver’s license. Applications can be submitted at the local administrative welfare center with a valid license.

교통과장은 “운전면허 반납 인센티브 제도는 고령운전자의 자발적인 면허 반납을 유도해 교통사고 위험을 줄이고 교통안전을 확보하기 위한 정책”이라며 “실제 운전을 하는 고령자들의 적극적인 참여를 기대한다”고 말했다.

A city official from the transportation department stated, “The license surrender incentive program is designed to encourage voluntary participation among senior drivers, reduce traffic accident risks, and enhance overall road safety. We hope for active participation from elderly drivers who are still driving.”
