동해시, 진드기 기피제 무료 배부

Donghae City is launching a free distribution of tick repellent to prevent tick-borne diseases as outdoor activities increase in spring. The program is available to both Korean citizens and foreign residents living in the city.

강원특별자치도 동해시는 봄철 야외활동 증가에 따라 진드기 매개 감염병 예방을 위해 진드기 기피제를 무료 배부한다. 이번 사업은 내국인뿐 아니라 동해시에 거주하는 외국인 주민도 함께 대상에 포함된다.

Distribution will begin on April 6 and continue until supplies are exhausted. Residents can receive the repellent at local administrative welfare centers or the Donghae Public Health Center by presenting a valid ID, such as a national ID card or Alien Registration Card.

배부는 4월 6일부터 시작되며, 준비된 수량이 소진될 때까지 진행된다. 주소지 관할 동 행정복지센터 또는 동해시 보건소에서 신분증(외국인의 경우 외국인등록증 등)을 지참하면 수령할 수 있다.

The program targets outdoor workers such as those in agriculture, forestry, and sanitation, as well as hikers, campers, and other active individuals frequently exposed to outdoor environments.

이번 사업은 농업·임업 종사자, 환경미화원 등 야외근로자뿐 아니라 등산객, 캠핑객 등 야외활동이 잦은 시민과 외국인 체류자를 대상으로 추진된다.

Ticks commonly inhabit grassy and bushy areas and can transmit serious illnesses such as Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (SFTS), which can be life-threatening, requiring extra caution.

진드기는 주로 풀밭이나 덤불에 서식하며, 물릴 경우 중증열성혈소판감소증후군(SFTS) 등 치명적인 감염병을 유발할 수 있어 각별한 주의가 필요하다.

The health center will also provide instructions on proper use of repellents and preventive measures. When used before outdoor activities, the repellent remains effective for approximately 4 to 6 hours.

보건소는 기피제 배부와 함께 올바른 사용법과 예방수칙을 안내할 예정이다. 야외활동 전 기피제를 사용하면 약 4~6시간 동안 효과가 지속된다.

Key preventive measures include wearing long-sleeved clothing, applying repellent, avoiding sitting directly on grass, and showering and washing clothes immediately after returning home.

주요 예방수칙으로는 ▲긴 옷 착용 ▲기피제 사용 ▲풀밭에 직접 앉지 않기 ▲귀가 후 즉시 샤워 및 의복 세탁 등이 있다.

#Yoon Hye-kyung, head of the Prevention Management Division, emphasized that prevention is the most effective way to avoid tick-borne diseases and urged residents to strictly follow safety guidelines during outdoor activities.

#윤혜경 예방관리과장은 “진드기 감염병 예방의 가장 좋은 방법은 물리지 않는 것”이라며 “야외활동 시 예방수칙을 철저히 지켜달라”고 당부했다.

The repellent will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis until supplies run out. For more information, residents can contact the Donghae Public Health Center.
