강원특별자치도, 삼척의료원 이전·준공… ‘첨단의료도시’ 본격화

Gangwon State Completes Relocation and Opening of Samcheok Medical Center… Moving Toward an Advanced Medical City

강원특별자치도(도지사 김진태)는 4월 1일 오후 2시 30분, 신축 의료원 1층 로비에서 「삼척의료원 이전신축 준공식」을 개최하며 강원 영동남부권 거점 공공병원의 새로운 출발을 알렸다.

Gangwon State (Governor Kim Jin-tae) held the completion ceremony for the newly relocated Samcheok Medical Center at 2:30 PM on April 1 in the first-floor lobby, marking a new beginning for a key public hospital serving the southern Yeongdong region.

이날 행사에는 김진태 지사를 비롯해 이철규 국회의원, 김시성 도의회 의장, 박상수 삼척시장 등 주요 인사와 의료기관 및 유관기관 관계자, 지역 주민 등 약 150여 명이 참석해 준공을 축하했다.

The ceremony was attended by around 150 participants, including Governor Kim Jin-tae, National Assembly member Lee Cheol-gyu, Provincial Council Chair Kim Si-seong, Samcheok Mayor Park Sang-soo, as well as officials from medical institutions and related organizations, along with local residents.

신축 삼척의료원은 2023년 8월 착공 이후 약 2년 6개월 만에 완공됐으며, 지하 1층·지상 5층(연면적 27,548㎡) 규모로 조성됐다. 총사업비는 825억 원이 투입됐으며, 280대 규모의 주차 공간과 5개 분향실을 갖춘 현대식 장례식장을 마련해 이용 편의를 크게 높였다.

The new Samcheok Medical Center was completed approximately two and a half years after construction began in August 2023. The facility consists of one basement level and five above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 27,548 square meters. Built with a total investment of KRW 82.5 billion, it includes parking for 280 vehicles and a modern funeral hall with five memorial rooms, significantly improving user convenience.

입원 병상은 기존 148병상에서 250병상으로 확대되어 입원 대기 문제를 해소하고, 진료과목도 13개 과에서 18개 과로 확대되어 종합병원 수준의 진료체계를 갖추게 된다.

The number of inpatient beds has been expanded from 148 to 250, reducing waiting times for hospitalization. The number of medical departments has also increased from 13 to 18, enabling a level of care comparable to a general hospital.

특히 재활의료센터(30병상)와 호스피스 완화의료센터(10병상)를 신설하고, 인공신장실을 27병상으로 확대해 만성질환 관리 기능을 강화했다. 또한 6개의 음압격리병상을 확보해 감염병 위기 상황에도 대응할 수 있는 지역 의료 안전망을 구축했다.

Notably, a rehabilitation medical center (30 beds) and a hospice and palliative care center (10 beds) have been newly established. The dialysis unit has been expanded to 27 beds, strengthening chronic disease management. Additionally, six negative-pressure isolation rooms have been secured to respond effectively to infectious disease crises.

#김진태 지사는 기념사에서 “3년 전 착공했던 삼척의료원이 오늘 준공을 맞았다”며 “두 차례에 걸친 이전을 성공적으로 마무리한 의미 있는 사례”라고 평가했다. 이어 “삼척은 강릉 이남과 태백·정선, 경북 북부까지 아우르는 공공형 대형병원으로 자리매김할 것”이라며 “중입자 가속기 암치료센터까지 추진되어 첨단의료도시로 도약할 것”이라고 강조했다.

In his commemorative speech, Governor Kim stated, “The Samcheok Medical Center, which began construction three years ago, has now been completed,” describing it as a meaningful case of successfully executing relocation twice. He added, “Samcheok will establish itself as a large-scale public hospital serving areas south of Gangneung, including Taebaek, Jeongseon, and northern Gyeongbuk,” and emphasized that “with the planned heavy ion accelerator cancer treatment center, the city will advance into a high-tech medical hub.”

준공식 이후 김 지사는 내빈 및 지역 주민들과 함께 의료원 시설을 둘러보며, 4월 7일 정상 진료 개시에 차질이 없도록 점검했다.

Following the ceremony, Governor Kim toured the facility with attendees and local residents, inspecting preparations to ensure a smooth start of full medical services on April 7.

한편 삼척의료원은 4월 3일까지 기존 병원 진료를 마무리하고, 4월 3일부터 6일까지 환자 전원 및 장비 이전을 완료한 뒤 4월 7일부터 신축 의료원에서 본격적인 진료를 시작할 예정이다.

Meanwhile, the Samcheok Medical Center will complete operations at its current location by April 3. Patient transfers and equipment relocation will take place from April 3 to April 6, with full-scale medical services beginning at the new facility on April 7.
