“잊지 않겠습니다”… 강원도, 서해수호 영웅 추모비 세운다

강원특별자치도, 제11회 서해수호의 날 기념식 개최… “호국광장에 추모비 조성 추진”

Gangwon State Holds 11th West Sea Defense Day Ceremony… Plans Memorial at Patriots Square

강원특별자치도는 3월 27일 오전 11시, 춘천교육문화관 강당에서 제11회 서해수호의 날 기념식을 개최하고, 서해수호 영웅들을 기리는 추모비 조성 계획을 밝혔다.

Gangwon State held the 11th West Sea Defense Day ceremony at 11 a.m. on March 27 at the Chuncheon Education & Culture Center auditorium, announcing plans to build a memorial honoring the fallen heroes of the West Sea defense.

이번 기념식은 강원특별자치도 재향군인회 주관으로 열렸으며, 김진태 도지사를 비롯해 정백규 서부보훈지청장, 방경종 강원지방병무청장, 재향군인회원, 국가유공자 및 유가족 등이 참석해 의미를 더했다.

The ceremony, hosted by the Gangwon Veterans Association, was attended by Governor Kim Jin-tae, Seo Bugyu (Head of the Western Veterans Affairs Office), Bang Gyeong-jong (Head of the Gangwon Military Manpower Office), veterans, national merit recipients, and bereaved families.

#김진태 지사는 기념사를 통해 서해수호 영웅들에 대한 깊은 경의를 표하며, “동해 광희고등학교에는 故 심영빈 중사와 故 장진선 중사의 동상이 있고, 강원대학교에는 故 정범구 병장의 이름을 딴 호국 장학금이 있다”고 밝혔다.

In his commemorative address, Governor Kim paid deep tribute to the fallen heroes, stating, “At Gwanghee High School in Donghae stand statues of the late Sergeant Sim Young-bin and Sergeant Jang Jin-seon, and Kangwon National University has a patriotic scholarship named after the late Private Jeong Beom-gu.”

이어 “故 박동혁 병장의 부모님이 홍천에 거주하고 계신 것처럼, 서해의 역사는 지금도 강원의 삶 속에 이어지고 있다”고 강조했다.

He added, “As the parents of the late Private Park Dong-hyuk live in Hongcheon, the history of the West Sea continues within the lives of Gangwon’s people today.”

김 지사는 “우리가 누리는 자유는 결코 당연한 것이 아니며, 전쟁은 결코 먼 나라 이야기가 아니다”라며, “북한이 대한민국을 적대국으로 규정하고 핵과 미사일 위협을 반복하는 엄중한 상황에서 안보에는 너와 내가 따로 있을 수 없다”고 말했다.

Governor Kim stressed, “The freedom we enjoy is never something to be taken for granted, and war is not a distant story,” adding, “In the grave reality where North Korea designates South Korea as an enemy and repeatedly issues nuclear and missile threats, security is a responsibility we all share.”

또한 “내부의 분열과 안보 불감증은 적이 노리는 가장 큰 허점”이라고 지적했다.

He further warned, “Internal division and complacency toward security are the greatest vulnerabilities that our enemies seek to exploit.”

김 지사는 “영웅들이 남긴 위대한 유산은 ‘수호의 정신’”이라며, “강원특별법 통과를 위해 국회 앞에서 삭발까지 감행한 것도 강원의 미래를 반드시 지키겠다는 절박함에서 비롯된 것”이라고 밝혔다.

Governor Kim emphasized, “The greatest legacy left by our heroes is the spirit of protection,” adding, “My own act of shaving my head in front of the National Assembly for the passage of the Gangwon Special Act stemmed from a desperate determination to safeguard the future of Gangwon.”

이어 “서해수호 영웅들의 희생과 정신을 결코 잊어서는 안 된다”고 당부했다.

He urged, “We must never forget the sacrifice and spirit of the West Sea defense heroes.”

끝으로 김 지사는 “도는 국립 횡성호국원과 강원 호국광장 조성을 추진 중이며, 호국광장에는 서해수호 영웅들을 기리는 추모비를 세울 계획”이라며, 국가를 위해 헌신한 분들이 합당한 예우를 받을 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다고 밝혔다.

In closing, he announced, “Gangwon State is 추진ing the establishment of the National Hoengseong Veterans Cemetery and the Gangwon Patriots Square, where a memorial for the West Sea defense heroes will be built,” reaffirming the province’s commitment to honoring those who sacrificed for the nation.
