‘55용사의 숭고한 희생 기린다’ 동해시, 제11회 서해수호의 날 기념식 거행

동해시가 조국 수호를 위해 목숨을 바친 서해수호 55용사의 숭고한 희생을 기리는 뜻깊은 자리를 마련한다.

Donghae City will hold a solemn ceremony to honor the noble sacrifice of the 55 heroes who gave their lives defending the nation in the West Sea.

오는 3월 27일(금) 오전 11시, 해군 제1함대 군항 통해관에서 동해시재향군인회 주관으로 ‘제11회 서해수호의 날 기념식’이 거행된다.

The 11th West Sea Defense Day ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 27, at the Navy 1st Fleet Command Hall, hosted by the Donghae Veterans Association.

이번 기념식은 ‘우리의 바다 서해, 평화와 번영으로!’를 주제로, 국가를 위해 산화한 영웅들의 희생을 되새기고 국민적 안보 의지를 다지는 자리로 마련된다.

Under the theme “Our Sea, the West Sea—Toward Peace and Prosperity,” the ceremony aims to commemorate the fallen heroes and strengthen national resolve for security.

행사에는 심규언 동해시장, 최이순 동해시의회 부의장, 해군 제1함대사령관을 비롯해 보훈·안보단체 관계자 등 약 300여 명이 참석할 예정이다.

Around 300 attendees—including Donghae Mayor Shim Gyu-eon, Vice Chair Choi Yi-sun of the City Council, the Commander of the Navy 1st Fleet, and veterans and security organization members—are expected to participate.

박윤송 동해시재향군인회 회장은 “조국을 지키다 산화한 호국 영웅들의 고귀한 희생에 깊은 경의를 표한다”며 “그들의 헌신을 영원히 기억하고 안보 의식을 되새기는 계기가 되길 바란다”고 밝혔다.

Park Yoon-song, President of the Donghae Veterans Association, stated, “We pay our deepest respects to the noble sacrifice of the heroes who fell defending our country. May this serve as a moment to remember their devotion and reaffirm our commitment to national security.”

심규언 동해시장은 “자유와 평화를 지켜온 호국 영웅들의 정신을 계승해 시민 모두가 국가 수호의 결의를 다지는 계기가 되길 기대한다”고 강조했다.

Mayor Shim Gyu-eon emphasized, “We hope this occasion will inspire all citizens to carry forward the spirit of the heroes who safeguarded our freedom and peace, strengthening our resolve to defend the nation.”

한편, 서해수호의 날은 2002년 제2연평해전, 2010년 천안함 피격 사건, 같은 해 연평도 포격전에서 전사한 55용사의 공훈을 기리기 위해 2016년부터 매년 3월 넷째 주 금요일에 지정·기념되고 있다.

Meanwhile, West Sea Defense Day has been commemorated annually on the fourth Friday of March since 2016, honoring the 55 fallen heroes of the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong (2002), the sinking of the ROKS Cheonan (2010), and the shelling of Yeonpyeong Island (2010).
