동해해수청, 관광객 안전사고 예방 위해 속초등대 노후 시설 개량 추진

Donghae Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries to Renovate Aging Facilities at Sokcho Lighthouse for Visitor Safety

동해지방해양수산청(청장 김채균)은 강원도 속초시에 위치한 속초등대의 노후 시설물 개량공사를 오는 3월부터 12월까지 추진한다고 밝혔다.

The Donghae Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries (Administrator Kim Chae-gyun) announced that it will carry out renovation work on aging facilities at Sokcho Lighthouse, located in Sokcho, Gangwon Province, from March through December.

속초등대는 1957년 처음으로 불을 밝힌 이후 오랜 기간 지역 주민과 관광객들의 발길이 이어져 온 대표적인 관광 명소다. 2006년 전면 개량을 통해 현재의 등대해양문화공간으로 새롭게 단장한 바 있다.

Since first lighting its beacon in 1957, Sokcho Lighthouse has become a landmark tourist attraction visited by both local residents and travelers. In 2006, it underwent a full-scale renovation and was transformed into a lighthouse marine cultural space in its current form.

그러나 최근 시설물 노후화로 인해 방문객 안전사고 우려가 제기되었으며, 관광 환경 개선을 위한 시설 개·보수의 필요성이 지속적으로 요구되어 왔다.

However, concerns have recently been raised over potential safety accidents due to aging infrastructure, along with continued calls for facility repairs and improvements to enhance the tourism environment.

이에 동해해수청은 총 4억4천만 원의 사업비를 투입해 야외 산책로 정비와 등대 전망대 시설물 개량을 추진할 계획이다.

In response, the Donghae office will invest 440 million KRW to renovate the outdoor walking trails and upgrade facilities at the lighthouse observatory.

공사 기간 중 일부 시설물에 대해서는 방문객 출입이 통제될 수 있으며, 관련 안내 사항은 동해해수청 누리집을 통해 공지할 예정이다.

During the construction period, access to certain facilities may be restricted. Detailed notices will be posted on the Donghae office’s official website.

동해해수청은 이번 개량공사 이후에도 지속적인 점검과 관리를 통해 관광객이 안심하고 찾을 수 있는 안전한 등대해양문화 관광지로 조성해 나갈 방침이다.

Following the renovation, the Donghae office plans to continue regular inspections and maintenance to ensure Sokcho Lighthouse remains a safe and welcoming marine cultural tourism destination.

동해해수청 관계자는 “이번 개량공사는 관광객 안전사고 예방을 위해 반드시 필요한 사업”이라며 “공사 기간 동안 안전수칙 준수를 위한 방문객들의 협조를 부탁드린다”고 말했다. 이어 “앞으로도 안전하고 쾌적한 등대해양문화공간 조성을 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

An official from the Donghae office stated, “This renovation project is essential to prevent safety accidents involving visitors. We kindly ask for the public’s cooperation in observing safety guidelines during the construction period.” The official added, “We will continue striving to create a safe and pleasant lighthouse marine cultural space.”
