Finding answers within the community: A university-led effort to develop solutions for stay-type tourism together with residents

강원도립대학교(총장 최종균, 이하 대학)가 대학의 자원을 활용해 지역 현안의 실질적 해법을 모색하는 ‘지역 문제 해결 플랫폼’으로서의 역할을 본격화했다. 대학은 지난 7일(토) 교내 이노베이션 센터에서 「2026 지역 현안 문제 해결 아이디어 경진대회」를 성황리에 개최했다고 밝혔다. 이번 대회는 대학이 주도하고 지역 주민의 시각을 반영한 현장 밀착형 정책 모델을 발굴하기 위해 마련됐다.

Gangwon Provincial College (President Choi Jong-gyun) has taken a decisive step toward becoming a practical platform for solving regional challenges by leveraging its academic and institutional resources. The college announced that it successfully held the “2026 Regional Issue Problem-Solving Idea Contest” on Saturday, the 7th, at its on-campus Innovation Center. The competition was designed to identify field-oriented policy models led by the university and grounded in the perspectives of local residents.

이번 대회는 창의혁신지역협력센터(센터장 최근표) 주관으로, “우리 마을에 머무를 이유를 설계하다”라는 슬로건 아래 진행됐다. 강릉·고성·양양 지역의 청년, 주민, 예비 창업자 등 총 16개 팀이 참가했으며, 참가자들은 단순 방문을 넘어 ▲지역과의 관계 맺기 ▲생활 기반 소비 확대 ▲숙박 연계 모델 등 ‘체류형 관광’을 핵심 주제로 다양한 아이디어를 제시했다.

Hosted by the Creative Innovation Regional Cooperation Center (Director Choi Geun-pyo), the contest was held under the slogan “Designing Reasons to Stay in Our Town.” A total of 16 teams—including youth, local residents, and prospective entrepreneurs from Gangneung, Goseong, and Yangyang—participated. Moving beyond short-term visits, participants proposed ideas centered on stay-type tourism, focusing on building relationships with local communities, expanding daily-life-based consumption, and developing accommodation-linked models.

치열한 심사 끝에 대상은 고성군 초등학생 천송이 참가자의 ‘고성 100점 챌린지’가 차지했다. 이 아이디어는 고성 지역 주요 관광지를 순환하며 미션을 수행하는 게이미피케이션(놀이화) 방식을 도입해, 가족 단위 방문객의 체류 시간을 자연스럽게 늘릴 수 있다는 점에서 높은 평가를 받았다.

After rigorous evaluation, the grand prize was awarded to Cheon Song-i, an elementary school student from Goseong County, for her proposal titled “Goseong 100-Point Challenge.” The idea introduced gamification elements, encouraging families to complete missions while touring major attractions in Goseong, effectively extending visitor stay durations—a factor that earned it top marks from the judges.

대학은 이번 경진대회를 통해 발굴된 우수 아이디어를 실제 정책과 현장에 반영할 계획이다. 최근표 센터장은 “선정된 과제들은 지자체와 협력해 현장 실험(Living Lab) 형태로 고도화하고, RISE(지역혁신 중심 대학지원체계)와 연계해 시범 사업으로 추진하겠다”고 밝혔다.

The college plans to translate the outstanding ideas discovered through the contest into real-world policies and on-site applications. Director Choi Geun-pyo stated, “Selected projects will be developed into Living Lab models in cooperation with local governments and promoted as pilot projects in connection with the RISE (Regional Innovation System for Education) framework.”

#최종균 총장은 “대학은 지역과 함께 성장해야 하는 지역혁신의 핵심 거점”이라며 “주민 중심의 아이디어가 지역의 새로운 성장 동력으로 이어질 수 있도록 교육·연구·산학협력 역량을 적극 연계해 나가겠다”고 강조했다.

President Choi Jong-gyun emphasized, “Universities must grow together with their regions as core hubs of regional innovation,” adding, “We will actively integrate our education, research, and industry-academia cooperation capabilities to ensure that resident-driven ideas become new engines of regional growth.”

이번 행사는 주민이 문제 해결의 주체로 참여하고 대학이 실행 인프라를 제공하는 ‘민·학 협력 모델’의 가능성을 입증했다는 평가를 받고 있다. 대학은 앞으로도 인적·물적 자원을 지속적으로 투입해 지역 문제 해결을 선도하는 실행 중심 플랫폼으로서의 역할을 강화해 나갈 계획이다.

The event has been widely recognized for demonstrating the potential of a civil–academic cooperation model, where residents act as problem-solvers and the university provides the execution infrastructure. Moving forward, the college plans to continue investing human and material resources to strengthen its role as an action-oriented platform for addressing regional challenges.
