- Exhibition: “I’m Not Very Good at Drawing” — Life Stories Drawn in Pencil

Beyond learning letters,
this exhibition is about relearning life.
The City of Donghae, together with the Pencil Museum, presents
“I’m Not Very Good at Drawing”,
an exhibition showcasing the creative outcomes of adult literacy learners.
Exhibition Period: January 19 – May 31, 2026
Venue: Pencil Museum, Balhan-dong, Donghae
This exhibition shares artworks created by senior learners who,
through words and drawings, reflect on their lives, memories, and emotions.
More than learning how to write, they learned how to tell their own stories.
About 70 learners from eight Hangul literacy classes participated.
The average age is 73, with the oldest participant at 84,
attending every session with unwavering passion for learning.
The works grew out of the
“Creative Experience: Meeting the Artist” program
held from October to December 2025,
culminating in a book publication and this exhibition.
The title, “I’m Not Very Good at Drawing,”
comes from the learners’ humble words—
yet each piece reveals a life story that is honest, resilient, and deeply human.
Visitors will encounter
handwritten stories, gentle pencil drawings,
and video records capturing moments of learning and creation.
From the hands holding a pencil begins a quiet but powerful message:
learning has no age, and life can always be rewritten.
One-line Highlight
