Gangwon Provincial College (President Choi Jong-gyun) and its RISE Project Group (Director Choi Geun-pyo) held a performance presentation on Thursday, the 11th, at the first floor of the Student Union Building, showcasing the outcomes of the “Local Food Business Startup Practicum” and “Local Tourism Business Startup Practicum” courses, designed to address regional challenges through students’ creative ideas.
The event was attended by students who completed the Local Business Convergence Curriculum, along with faculty members and staff. Participants presented semester-long projects through posters and tangible outputs, sharing best practices and celebrating the achievements together.
Both practicum courses are official curriculum subjects aimed at strengthening students’ problem-solving competencies through active participation in regional innovation and community engagement. The courses combine team-based problem-solving, theoretical instruction, discussion-based learning, and on-site field activities, enabling students and professors to collaboratively identify and address real local issues alongside local governments and residents.
In the Local Food Business Practicum (Professor Park Ji-ah), students introduced six locally inspired food products using Sokcho’s signature seafood—octopus, red snow crab, and squid—along with regional agricultural products such as omija, green tea, and corn.
The showcased items included the Octocon Cup, Red Crab & Squid Croquettes, Sokcho Squid Ink Octopus Balls, Omija Green Tea Pie, Forest Sando, and Seorak Autumn Foliage Terrine.
The Local Tourism Business Practicum (Professor Jeon Jeong-suk) also produced notable results. Based on tourism trend analysis and field research, students presented highly feasible tourism product proposals, receiving enthusiastic responses.
By unveiling tourism content, local goods, and publications developed throughout the semester, the event demonstrated how regional memories can be transformed into new tourism assets and business opportunities.
In addition, students published a co-authored book titled “Memories Meet Local Business,” compiling their field research and project experiences. The publication has been highly regarded for organically connecting students’ records, interviews, regional narratives, and local business startup ideas.
Director Choi Geun-pyo of the RISE Project Group stated,
“We are continuously expanding student-led entrepreneurship courses to help students set and achieve their own goals. Moving forward, in connection with the RISE initiative, we will actively support young talents so they can grow and demonstrate practical capabilities in local tourism and entrepreneurship within the region.”
