The 2025 Public Transmission Event of Buddhist Wooden Sculpture, designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, was held on Saturday, September 27 at the Doyeon Buddhist Art Center (56, Seongdeok-ro 185beon-gil).
Under the theme “Buddhist Wooden Sculpture:Weaving the Spirit of the Times into Wood”, the event was designed to highlight the historical evolution of Buddhist wooden sculpture, while promoting its artistry and craftsmanship for future generations.
The program featured live demonstrations of traditional Buddhist wood carving, an exhibition of wooden sculptures, and interactive carving experiences that allowed citizens to participate directly. These activities were met with enthusiastic responses from the audience.
Heo Dong-wook, Director of the Cultural Heritage Division, remarked, “I sincerely thank everyone who joined us in supporting the development of traditional culture. We will continue to make efforts so that citizens can vividly experience and richly appreciate the values that must be preserved even amid changing times.”
