항공우주 현장에서 만난 미래 교육의 희망

A Glimpse of Future Education at the Heart of Aerospace

새벽 4시, 춘천을 출발하여 빗줄기가 내리는 고속도로를 달려, 아직 어둠이 채 가시지 않은 시간 대전역 동광장에 도착하니, 한국과학창의재단이 준비한 버스가 기다리고 있었다. 전국 각지에서 모인 교육부와 교육청 관계자, 교육기부 추진협의체 기관, 그리고 한국과학창의재단 연구원들의 발걸음이 한데 모여, 경남 사천으로 향하는 여정이 시작됐다.

At 4 a.m., we departed from Chuncheon, driving through rain-swept highways. By the time we reached Daejeon Station’s east plaza, the dawn had yet to break. A bus prepared by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity (KOFAC) was waiting. Officials from the Ministry of Education, local education offices, educational donation councils, and KOFAC researchers gathered from across the country, beginning their journey to Sacheon, Gyeongnam.

With a warm welcome and thoughtful guidance from KOFAC’s senior researcher Kim Myung-soo, we finally arrived at KAI in Sacheon, Gyeongnam.

 At the Heart of Aerospace: Experiencing KAI

KAI 사회공헌팀 최두열 부장의 안내로 비행기 조립 현장을 직접 둘러보았다. 공정은 자동차 조립과 유사했지만, 기술에 대한 자부심과 애국심은 그 이상이었다. 조립동 벽면에 걸린 초대형 태극기는 상징적 의미를 더했고, 설명을 듣는 내내 경이로움과 흥미가 교차했다.

Led by Choi Doo-yeol, head of KAI’s CSR team, we toured the aircraft assembly line. While the process resembled automobile assembly, the pride in technology and patriotism was far greater. A massive Taegeukgi (national flag) hanging on the wall added symbolic weight, and throughout the briefing, awe and curiosity filled the air.

직원 연봉에 대한 질문에 엄지척으로 답하는 모습은 현장의 자신감을 보여주었고, 수출 기종과 시험 비행 중인 기종에 대한 설명이 이어질 때마다 참가자들은 아낌없는 박수를 보냈다.

When asked about employee salaries, a simple thumbs-up reflected confidence. Every explanation about export models and aircraft undergoing test flights drew rounds of applause from participants.

특별안전구역이라 사진으로 남길 수는 없었지만, 마음과 눈으로 장면들을 깊이 새겼다. 라이트 형제의 동력비행기보다 300여 년 앞서 ‘비차(飛車)’를 만들었던 선현들의 정신이 오늘의 KAI를 만든 원동력임을 실감하는 순간이었다.

Although photography was restricted in the security zone, we imprinted the scenes deeply in our hearts and minds. It was a moment of realization that the pioneering spirit of ancestors—who conceived the Bicha(flying vehicle) centuries before the Wright brothers’ powered flight—continues to fuel today’s KAI.

교육기부, 협력의 가능성을 열다

Opening New Possibilities Through Collaboration

워크숍의 또 다른 무대는 교육기부 운영사례 발표였다.

Another highlight of the workshop was the presentation of educational donation case studies.

경기도교육청 김혜경 장학관은 ‘경기공유학교’를 소개하며 지역 교육의 새로운 가능성을 보여주었고,

Kim Hye-kyung, a supervisor at Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, introduced the “Gyeonggi Sharing School,” demonstrating new local education models.

한서대학교 서은주 교수는 교육기부 기관 간 협력의 힘을 강조했다.

Professor Seo Eun-ju of Hanseo University emphasized the power of collaboration among donation institutions. 

극지연구소 강민구 문화홍보실장은 극지 연구와 교육기부의 만남을,

조세재정연구원 이준성 센터장은 조세교육센터의 신규 참여를 알렸다.

발표가 이어질수록 교육기부가 단순한 나눔을 넘어, 청소년들의 꿈과 국가의 미래를 키우는 토대임을 확인할 수 있었다

Kang Min-gu from the Korea Polar Research Institute shared how polar research connects with education donation,

while Lee Joon-sung from the Korea Institute of Public Finance announced the participation of the Tax Education Center.

he presentations underscored that educational philanthropy is not mere giving—it is a foundation that nurtures youth dreams and the nation’s future.

“교육은 100년 대계”…지속가능한 길을 모색하다

 “Education is a 100-Year Plan”… Seeking Sustainable Pathways

둘째 날, 사천 KB손해보험인재니움 연수원에서는 분과별 심층 토론이 열렸다. 참가자들은 교육기부의 지속가능한 발전 방안을 숙의하며, 학교 안팎의 교육이 균형 있게 이루어져야 한다는 데 뜻을 모았다.

On the second day at KB Insurance Injaenium Training Center in Sacheon, participants engaged in in-depth group discussions. They deliberated on sustainable development of educational donations, reaching consensus that education must balance both in-school and out-of-school experiences.

특히 민간 교육기부 기관의 전문성과 자원을 발굴하고 연계하는 것이 중요하다는 의견이 강조됐다. 교육은 단순히 교실 안에서만 이뤄지는 것이 아니라, 사회 전체가 함께 키워가는 100년의 큰 계획임을 다시금 확인하는 자리였다.

Participants highlighted the importance of discovering and linking private institutions’ expertise and resources. It reaffirmed that education is not confined to classrooms but a century-long project nurtured by society as a whole.

강원으로 돌아오며

Returning to Gangwon

워크숍은 참가자들의 환한 미소 속에 마무리됐다. 교육기부 기관들이 우리 사회에 선한 영향력을 퍼뜨리길 바라는 응원과 함께, 총괄을 맡은 한국과학창의재단의 무궁한 발전을 기원하며 다시 강원도로 향했다.

The workshop concluded with smiles all around. With heartfelt wishes for educational donation institutions to spread positive influence across society, and with support for the continued growth of KOFAC, participants set off back to Gangwon.

짧지 않은 여정이었지만, 이번 워크숍은 단순한 탐방이 아니라 대한민국 교육의 미래를 함께 고민하고, 항공우주 산업의 자부심 속에서 교육기부의 가치를 재발견한 시간이었다.

Though not a short journey, this workshop was more than a field trip—it was a time to reflect on the future of Korean education and to rediscover the value of educational philanthropy within the pride of the aerospace industry.
