한화시스템(대표이사 손재일)은 영국의 대표 방산기업인 BAE 시스템스(BAE Systems)와 함께 ‘첨단 복합센서 위성망 공동구축 협력 MOU’를 10일 체결했다고 밝혔다.

Hanwha Systems (CEO Son Jae-il) announced on the 10th that it has signed an MOU with BAE Systems, a leading British defense company, to jointly build an advanced multi-sensor satellite network.

이번 협약을 통해 BAE 시스템스의 초광대역 무선주파수(RF) 위성과 한화시스템의 고성능 소형 SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) 위성 기술을 결합, 독보적인 감시정찰위성망을 구축하고 글로벌 시장 진출 경쟁력을 강화한다는 계획이다.

Through this partnership, the two companies will integrate BAE Systems’ ultra-wideband RF satellites with Hanwha Systems’ advanced small SAR satellite technology to establish a world-class surveillance and reconnaissance satellite network and strengthen global competitiveness.

복합센서 위성체계는 RF와 SAR 위성에서 수집된 데이터를 인공지능과 머신러닝 기술을 통해 정밀 분석, 보다 정확하고 빠른 정보 제공이 가능해 감시정찰 자산으로서 높은 기대를 모으고 있다.

The integrated satellite system will utilize AI and machine learning to analyze data collected from RF and SAR satellites, providing more accurate and faster intelligence, and is expected to become a powerful surveillance and reconnaissance asset.

레이첼 호일 BAE 시스템스 디지털인텔리전스 우주 담당 이사는 “이번 기술 협력은 글로벌 감시정찰 위성 시장에서 양사 역량을 확대할 수 있는 절호의 기회”라며, “한-영 간 방산협력의 성공적 사례가 될 뿐 아니라, 미래 우주산업 발전에도 기여할 것”이라고 말했다.

Rachael Hoyle, Head of Space for Digital Intelligence at BAE Systems, said, “This collaboration is a golden opportunity to expand both companies’ influence in the global surveillance satellite market. It will not only be a successful example of UK-Korea defense cooperation, but also contribute to the advancement of future space technologies.”

송성찬 한화시스템 우주사업부장은 “소형 SAR 위성은 전 세계적으로 그 가치를 인정받는 감시정찰 자산”이라며, “BAE와 함께 차세대 위성망을 구축해 글로벌 시장에서 한화시스템의 입지를 더욱 강화하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Song Sung-chan, Head of the Space Division at Hanwha Systems, stated, “Small SAR satellites are highly valued worldwide as surveillance assets. By partnering with BAE, we aim to build a next-generation satellite constellation and solidify Hanwha Systems’ position in the global market.”

한편, #한화시스템은 국내 최초의 감시정찰 위성인 ‘425 위성’의 SAR 탑재체를 공급 중이며, 2023년에는 순수 국내 기술로 개발한 1m 해상도의 소형 SAR 위성을 성공적으로 발사해 민간 주도 감시위성 역량을 입증했다.

Hanwha Systems is currently supplying the SAR payload for South Korea’s first surveillance satellite, the “425 Satellite.” In 2023, the company successfully launched a 1-meter resolution small SAR satellite developed entirely with domestic technology, proving its capabilities in the civilian-led space observation sector.

또한 국방과학연구소가 주관하는 국내 최초 저궤도 통신 시험위성 개발 사업에도 참여해 통신위성 탑재체를 개발 중이며, 자주적 군 통신위성망 구축에도 적극 나서고 있다.

It is also participating in South Korea’s first low-Earth orbit (LEO) communication satellite project led by the Agency for Defense Development, developing satellite payloads to establish an independent military communication satellite network.
