“작은 학교의 큰 세계여행” 하장중학교, 일본 도쿄에서 배운 우정과 용기

강원 산골의 작은 학교 학생들이 비행기에 올랐다.

전교생은 단 7명. 그러나 아이들이 향한 세계는 결코 작지 않았다.

5월의 일본 도쿄.

낯선 거리의 공기와 새로운 언어, 그리고 처음 만나는 또래 친구들 앞에서 아이들은 조금 긴장했지만, 곧 음악과 웃음으로 마음의 문을 열기 시작했다.

Tokyo in May.

Surrounded by unfamiliar streets, a new language, and students they had never met before, the children were nervous at first. But soon, music and laughter opened their hearts.

하장중학교는 5월 19일부터 23일까지 3박 5일간 일본 도쿄 일대에서 ‘꿈 찾아 행복 찾아 떠나는 사제동행 세계문화교류 테마체험학습’을 진행한다.

이번 여정에는 전교생 7명 전원이 참여했다.

From May 19 to 23, Hajang Middle School is conducting a five-day global cultural exchange program in Tokyo, Japan, titled “Finding Dreams and Happiness Through Teacher-Student Cultural Exploration.”

All seven students of the school are participating in the journey.

이번 체험학습이 더욱 특별한 이유는 단순한 관광이 아니라 ‘사람과 사람의 만남’에 중심을 두고 있기 때문이다.

학생들은 도쿄 요코하마 스이료 중학교와 아다치 제일 중학교를 방문해 현지 학생들과 함께 영어·음악·미술·이과 수업에 참여한다.

What makes this program truly meaningful is that it is not merely sightseeing, but an experience centered on human connection.

The students are visiting Yokohama Suiryo Middle School and Adachi Daiichi Middle School, joining local students in English, music, art, and science classes.

특히 직접 준비한 밴드 공연은 언어를 뛰어넘는 교류의 순간이 된다.

말은 달라도 음악 앞에서는 모두가 친구가 된다.

Their band performance, carefully prepared before the trip, becomes a moment of connection beyond language.

Even when words differ, music makes everyone friends.

아이들은 스스로 여행을 설계하기도 했다.

‘하장팀’은 메이지 신궁과 아키하바라를 탐방하며 일본 도시문화의 현재를 살펴보고, ‘두타팀’은 가마쿠라의 역사와 일본 캐릭터 산업 문화를 경험한다.

The students also designed parts of the trip themselves.

The “Hajang Team” explores modern urban culture through visits to Meiji Shrine and Akihabara, while the “Duta Team” experiences the history of Kamakura and Japan’s character industry.

작은 학교의 교육은 때로 더 깊다.

학생 수가 적기에 서로를 더 오래 바라보고, 더 자주 대화하며, 함께 성장할 수 있기 때문이다.

이번 일본 체험학습 역시 그런 하장중학교만의 따뜻한 교육 철학이 담겨 있다.

Sometimes, education in a small school runs deeper.

With fewer students, teachers and classmates spend more time listening, talking, and growing together.

This trip to Japan reflects the warm educational philosophy unique to Hajang Middle School.

#박대훈 교장은 “아이들이 세계를 경험하며 국제적 감각을 갖춘 민주시민으로 성장하길 바란다”고 말했다.

그 말처럼 이번 여행은 단순한 해외체험이 아니라, 아이들의 마음속에 오래 남을 ‘삶의 수업’이 되고 있다.

Principal Park Dae-hoon said, “We hope our students grow into global citizens with an international perspective through this experience.”

True to his words, this journey is becoming more than an overseas trip — it is turning into a life lesson that will remain in the students’ hearts for years to come.

작은 시골학교의 교실은 이제 세계와 연결되고 있다.

그리고 그 조용한 출발은 어쩌면, 아이들의 미래를 가장 크게 바꾸는 첫걸음일지도 모른다.

The classroom of a small rural school is now connected to the world.

And perhaps this quiet beginning will become the first step toward transforming the students’ futures in the biggest way possible.
