#The Gangwon Tourism Organization has selected Hoengseong County and Yanggu County as the May recommended travel destinations for the “#2025–2026 Visit Gangwon Year” and is launching large-scale promotional marketing campaigns.
The focus will be on May festivals, particularly the #Hoengseong Lakeside Festival and the #Yanggu Gomchwi Festival.
The #Hoengseong Lakeside Festival Lakeside Festival is a healing festival set along the scenic lakeside trails surrounding Hoengseong Lake, offering a chance to rest and recharge in nature. It will be held from Friday, May 9 to Sunday, May 11, and will feature a variety of programs such as walking events (like the “Touching Journey Walking Event”), live performances, singing contests, and more.
Visitors can also enjoy attractions like the #Pungsuwon Catholic Church, which boasts over 100 years of history, the Cultural Relics Exhibition Hall showcasing traces of ancestral life, and the Hoengseong Luge Experience Center, the longest luge track in Korea at 2.4km.
Hoengseong’s rich culinary offerings include #Hoengseong Hanwoo (Korean beef), #deodeok (mountain herb root), #Anheung steamed bread, and #Eosajinmi (Hoengseong rice).
Meanwhile, the #Yanggu Gomchwi Festival will be held for four days from Saturday, May 3 to Tuesday, May 6, under the theme of the #Lucky Gomchwi Project, which symbolizes bringing good fortune. The festival offers Gomchwi food experiences, performances, and even a 3-day firework show, making it an event the whole family can enjoy.
Visitors can also explore 15,000 tulips in bloom at the Yanggu Arboretum, Hanbando Island – Korea’s largest artificial wetland located in the upper stream of Lake Paroho, and Paroho Flower Island, where visitors can take Insta-worthy photos surrounded by flowers all year round. Don’t miss the Yanggu County Park Soo-keun Art Museum, beloved for its modest charm by celebrities like #BTS RM and members of the #Samsung family.
Special discounts are also available for visitors to these recommended May travel spots.
In Hoengseong, admission fees to Hoengseong Lakeside Trail Section 5 and the Pungsuwon Cultural Relics Exhibition Hall will be 50% off throughout May.
Additionally, #Hoengseong Romantic Taxi, operated by Hoengseong County and the Hoengseong Culture & Tourism Foundation, will offer 20% discounted fares during April–May and September–October as part of the Visit Gangwon celebrations.
The #Welli Hilli Park promotion in Hoengseong, offered as a special Visit Gangwon product, will be available for reservation through May 18 on its official website, with discounts of up to 77% off the regular price.
In Yanggu, promotional booth events during the Gomchwi Festival will offer tour tickets, souvenirs, and more. There will also be free admission to tourist attractions for Yanggu City Tour participants throughout May.
Free admission events linked to the month's recommended travel destinations are also in the works.
