Celebrating 50 Years of Sisterhood and Promising Future Cooperation

On April 22, Premier #Danielle Smith of Alberta officially visited #Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, marking the 50th anniversary of sister-province ties.

This visit follows Gangwon’s delegation trip to Alberta in September 2024 and is the first by an Alberta Premier in 20 years.

Governor #Kim Jin-tae warmly welcomed Premier Smith and highlighted the historical significance of the visit. Both delegations attended the unveiling ceremony of a new signboard for the Alberta Pavilion, a symbolic wooden structure gifted by Alberta during the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.

It stands alongside #Gangwonjeong, a pavilion gifted to Alberta by Gangwon in 2004.

Governor Kim recalled memorable moments from his Alberta visit and expressed hope that he and Premier Smith would be remembered as key figures in the strong relationship between the two regions.

Premier #Smith emphasized Alberta’s strong commitment to its longstanding partnership with Gangwon, noting ties in sports, #education, #clean energy, and #agriculture.

She expressed excitement about expanding cooperation in# biotech, advanced #technology, and #economic exchange.

The two regions are actively working on real projects, including medical and hydrogen industry seminars, with further sports exchanges scheduled, such as a curling delegation visit in July.

Given their shared focus on #biohealth, #clean energy, and IT, #Gangwon and Alberta aim to become a leading model of inter-regional industrial cooperation.
