The Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province and the Gangwon Tourism Organization have announced Samcheok and Yangyang as the recommended travel destinations for April as part of the "2025-2026 Gangwon Visit Year" campaign, launching extensive promotional marketing efforts.
Under the theme of "Flower Outings in April," the focus will be on promoting the Samcheok Maengbang Canola Flower Festival and Yangyang Namdaecheon Cherry Blossom Road.
The Samcheok Maengbang Canola Flower Festival, held from Friday, April 4 to Sunday, April 20, is one of Samcheok’s signature spring festivals, where visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the sea, canola flowers, and cherry blossoms all at once. The festival will feature various programs, including a Canola Flower Song Festival and busking performances.
In addition to the festival, visitors can explore:
Deokbongsan Coastal Ecological Trail, which has been opened to the public for the first time in 53 years
Samcheok Marine Rail Bike, where they can feel the refreshing sea breeze amidst lush forests
Narigol Sentimental Village, which offers a stunning view of Samcheok Port
Samcheok Hwalgi Healing Forest, which provides experiences such as foot baths and traditional tea therapy
Meanwhile, the Yangyang Namdaecheon Cherry Blossom Road is considered one of Yangyang’s most beautiful cherry blossom spots. Starting from Saturday, April 5, the Yangyang Saengsaeng Festival will take place along Namdaecheon, featuring activities such as salmon release experiences and cherry blossom events.
Other recommended attractions in Yangyang include:
Naksansa Uisangdae, a famous East Coast sunrise spot
Namdaecheon Water Leisure Center, where visitors can enjoy various water sports
Fisheries and Fishing Village Experience Center & Haeporang Shelter
Yangyang Traditional Market (5-day Market), the largest traditional market in the Yeongdong region of Gangwon
To encourage visitors, various special promotions and discounts will be available in April.
Special accommodation promotions will be offered at High1 ChooChoo Park (Samcheok), Osaek Green Yard Hotel (Yangyang), and Chestertons Naksan (Yangyang).
Sol Beach (Samcheok & Yangyang) will offer a Gangwon Visit Year promotional package, available for purchase on their website until March 31.
A lodging discount event, offering coupons of up to 30,000 KRW, will be available from April 1 to April 14 for visitors staying in Samcheok and Yangyang.
At the Samcheok Maengbang Canola Flower Festival, visitors who use designated accommodations under the lodging event can receive a souvenir at the tourism promotion booth.
Visitors stopping by the booth can also enjoy discounts on key tourist attractions, including the Samcheok Marine Rail Bike, Samcheok Marine Cable Car, and healing programs at Samcheok Hwalgi Healing Forest.
Choi Seong-hyun, CEO of the Gangwon Tourism Organization, stated,
"With the opening of the Donghae Jungbu Line this year, following the KTX Gangneung Line and the Yangyang Expressway, accessibility to Gangwon’s coastal cities has significantly improved. We hope many visitors come to Samcheok and Yangyang in April to enjoy the fragrant flowers and the beautiful East Sea."
