강원특별자치도, 방위산업 강소기업 육성 본격 추진

Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Embarks on Full-Scale Development of Small but Strong Defense Companies.

The Gangwon Defense Venture Center signed agreements with 14 companies in 2024. This year, it conducted a two-month public recruitment to attract small and medium-sized venture companies capable of advancing into cutting-edge defense industries, such as military communication encryption equipment and VR-based combat systems.

Some companies plan to relocate their headquarters or research centers within the province to collaborate with local institutions. Partner companies will receive various benefits, including matching for government military commercialization projects, support for product and technology development costs, and access to military networks with defense industry experts. They will also be provided with information on hard-to-access defense technologies, business consulting, and promotional support.

Additionally, starting in 2025, they will be eligible for preferential support under the province’s SME management stabilization fund, which includes a loan limit of 1 billion KRW and an interest subsidy rate of 2.5%.

The Gangwon Defense Venture Center operates under the Defense Technology Promotion Research Institute and was successfully established in August by Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, officially opening on December 3. The center serves as a hub to help local small and medium-sized enterprises enter the defense sector, which has high entry barriers.

Jung Kwang-yeol, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, stated, “We will do our best to support the growth of small but strong defense companies and foster the defense industry by integrating outstanding private-sector technologies and ideas into the military sector in collaboration with the Gangwon Defense Venture Center.”

강원특별자치도(도지사 김진태, 이하 ‘도’)와 강원국방벤처센터(국방기술진흥연구소 산하)는 3월 18일(월) 오후 2시 강원대학교 국제회의실에서 성장하는 방산 시장에 대응하고 지역 방산 강소기업을 육성하기 위해 「2025년 강원국방벤처센터 지원기업 협약식」을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이번 협약식에는 정광열 도 경제부지사, 현준태 춘천 부시장, 이득찬 강원대학교 산학연구부총장, 정영진 국방기술진흥연구소 방산혁신클러스터사업부장 등이 참석했으며, 강원국방벤처센터는 신규 29개사와 지원 협약을 체결했다.

강원국방벤처센터는 2024년 14개 기업과 협약을 체결한 바 있으며, 올해는 2개월간 공모를 통해 군(軍) 통신 암호 장비, VR 기반 전투 시스템 등 첨단 방위산업 분야에 진출할 수 있는 중소벤처기업을 모집했다.

일부 기업은 이번 협약에 참여하기 위해 도내 본사나 연구소를 이전하여 강원 지역 기관과 협업을 추진할 계획이다.

향후 협약 기업은 군(軍) 사업화 정부과제 매칭, 제품․기술 개발비 지원 및 방산 전문 인력을 활용한 군 네트워크 공유와 함께,

자료 취득이 어려운 국방 기술에 대한 정보 제공과 경영 컨설팅․홍보 지원 등의 사업비를 지원받게 된다.

아울러, 2025년부터 도에서 지원하는 중소기업 경영 안정자금(융자 한도 10억 원, 이자 지원율 2.5%)의 우대 지원도 받을 수 있다.

강원국방벤처센터는 국방기술진흥연구소 산하 국방기술 전문 지원기관으로, 강원특별자치도가 지난 8월 유치에 성공한 후 12월 3일 개소했다. 초기 진입 장벽이 높은 방산 시장에 도내 중소벤처기업이 원활히 진출할 수 있도록 구심점 역할을 수행하고 있다.

정광열 강원특별자치도 경제부지사는 “강원국방벤처센터와 협력하여 민간의 우수 기술과 아이디어를 국방 분야에 접목해 방산 강소기업 성장을 지원하고 방위산업을 육성할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
