The Korean Mixed Doubles Curling Team, led by coach Im Myung-seop (Gangneung City Hall), with athletes Kim Kyung-ae (Gangneung City Hall) and Seong Ji-hoon (Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Office), secured a prestigious silver medal at the 9th Harbin Winter Asian Games on Saturday, February 8 in Harbin, China. This remarkable achievement reaffirmed Korea’s status as one of the top curling nations in Asia.

The competition featured Asia’s elite curling athletes, showcasing intense matches and high-level performances. Mixed doubles curling, a discipline featuring one male and one female player per team, follows the same scoring system as traditional curling but is played over eight ends, with each team delivering five stones per end. This year marks the first time that mixed doubles curling has been included as an official event in the Winter Asian Games.

Team Korea impressed throughout the tournament with their exceptional teamwork and strategic play. In particular, Kim Kyung-ae’s powerful takeouts stood out, playing a crucial role in the team's journey to the silver medal.

Gangneung Mayor Kim Hong-kyu praised the team’s efforts, stating, “This silver medal is the result of years of preparation and relentless dedication by our athletes. With this achievement proving their outstanding skill, we will continue to support them so they can achieve even greater success on the international stage.”

Gangneung City Hall’s curling team has consistently performed at the highest level, having previously made history in 2022 by becoming the first Korean women's team to reach the finals of the World Women's Curling Championship, winning silver. Now, Kim Kyung-ae has once again written history as the first Gangneung City Hall athlete to win a silver medal in mixed doubles curling at the Winter Asian Games.

Building on this success, the Gangneung City Hall Curling Team aims to further enhance its global competitiveness through continuous training and strategic development. With sustained progress and growth, they are expected to remain a standout team on the international curling stage for years to come.

대한민국 믹스더블 컬링 대표팀(강릉시청 임명섭 감독, 강릉시청 김경애 선수, 강원특별자치도청 성지훈 선수)이 8일(토) 중국 하얼빈에서 개최된 제9회 하얼빈 동계아시안게임 믹스더블 컬링 종목에서 영예로운 준우승을 차지하며, 아시아 최고 수준의 실력을 입증하였다.

이번 대회는 아시아 각국을 대표하는 최정상급 선수들이 대거 참가한 가운데, 치열한 경쟁과 수준 높은 경기력이 펼쳐졌다.

믹스더블 컬링은 컬링의 혼성 종목으로 남자 1명, 여자 1명으로 구성되며, 점수 계산은 일반 컬링과 같으나 총 8엔드로, 각 팀별 엔드 당 5개의 스톤만 투구할 수 있다는 특징이 있으며, 이번 동계아시안게임에 처음 정식종목으로 채택되었다.

우리 팀은 이번 대회에서 뛰어난 경기력과 조직력을 선보이며 주목받았다.

특히 김경애 선수의 파워풀한 테이크아웃이 돋보였고, 두 선수의 팀워크가 경기 내내 빛을 발하며 준우승을 차지하는 결정적인 역할을 하였다.

김홍규 강릉시장은 “이번 준우승은 오랜 기간의 준비와 팀원들의 끊임없는 노력의 결실이며, 앞으로도 더욱 높은 목표를 향해 나아갈 것이다. 이번 대회를 통해 우리 선수들의 실력을 입증한 만큼, 향후 국제 대회에서도 더욱 좋은 성과를 낼 수 있도록 적극적인 지원을 이어나가도록 하겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, 강릉시청 컬링팀은 2022 세계여자컬링선수권대회에서 대한민국 최초 여자컬링 결승전 진출 및 준우승을 차지한 바 있으며, 김경애(강릉시청) 선수는 강릉시청 입단 이래 최초 동계아시안게임 준우승이라는 새 역사를 쓰게 됐다.

이번 성과를 바탕으로 강릉시청 컬링팀은 아시아를 넘어 글로벌 무대에서도 경쟁력을 갖춘 팀으로 자리매김할 수 있도록 지속적인 훈련과 전략적 기획을 강화할 계획이다. 앞으로도 지속적인 발전과 성장을 통해 국제 스포츠 무대에서 더욱 주목받는 팀이 될 것으로 기대된다.
