A delegation from Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) visited Masdar City, an eco-friendly smart city in Abu Dhabi, UAE, to explore innovative green and smart technologies that can be applied to the administrative complex town currently under construction in Goeun-ri, Chuncheon.

This visit is seen as a significant turning point in implementing sustainability in the design and operation of the administrative complex town.

Masdar City, which began development in 2008, is an innovative urban model designed to be the world’s first carbon-neutral city.

The city primarily uses solar power as its main energy source and maximizes energy efficiency through its architecture and smart transportation systems, including autonomous vehicles, achieving a perfect harmony of sustainability and cutting-edge technology.
This urban design has garnered global attention as a exemplary case for solving environmental issues and developing future cities.

The Gangwon delegation closely analyzed Masdar City’s design and operational methods, discussing various eco-friendly technologies and spatial utilization strategies that could be applied to the Goeun-ri administrative complex town.
Through a meeting with Salah Zaat, a sustainability engineer at Masdar City, the delegation discussed design philosophies centered on energy self-sufficiency and sustainability, which are expected to play a key role in establishing the complex not just as an administrative hub but as a future urban model for Gangwon.

Additionally, during a meeting with Ambassador Ryu Je-seung of the Republic of Korea to the UAE, the delegation emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province and the UAE, as well as supporting local companies in entering the UAE market.

Governor Kim Jin-tae stated, “Masdar City is a successful example of the harmony between urban sustainability and innovative technology,” and emphasized, “We will further strengthen the project to ensure that the Goeun-ri administrative complex town becomes not only a driver of Gangwon’s development but also a sustainable urban model for South Korea by integrating regional characteristics with global standards.”

이번 방문은 행정복합타운 설계와 운영에 지속 가능성을 구현하기 위한 중요한 전환점으로 평가받고 있다.

마스다르 시티는 2008년 개발을 시작하여 세계 최초의 탄소제로 도시를 목표로 설계된 혁신적 도시 모델이다.

이 도시는 태양광 발전을 주 전력원으로 사용하며, 에너지 효율성을 극대화한 건축물과 자율주행 무인차량 등 스마트 교통 시스템을 통해 지속 가능성과 첨단 기술이 완벽히 조화를 이루고 있다.

이러한 도시 설계는 글로벌 환경 문제 해결과 미래 도시 개발의 모범 사례로 세계적 주목을 받고 있다.

강원특별자치도 방문단은 마스다르 시티의 설계와 운영 방식을 면밀히 분석하며, 춘천 고은리 행정복합타운에 적용할 다양한 친환경 기술과 공간 활용 방안을 논의했다.

마스다르 시티 살라 지앗 지속가능성 부문 엔지니어와의 면담을 통해 에너지 자립과 지속 가능성을 중심으로 한 설계 철학이 논의되었으며, 이는 단순한 행정 기능을 넘어 강원의 미래 도시 모델로 자리 잡는 데 핵심적 역할을 할 것으로 기대된다.

또한 류제승 주UAE 대한민국대사와의 면담을 통해 도내기업들의 현지시장 진출과 강원특별자치도, UAE간 협력 강화에 교두보 역할을 해줄 것을 당부하였다.

김진태 도지사는 “마스다르 시티는 도시의 지속 가능성과 혁신 기술이 조화를 이룬 성공 사례”라며, “지역 특성과 글로벌 표준을 융합해 춘천 고은리 행정복합타운이 강원의 발전을 넘어 대한민국의 지속 가능한 도시 모델로 자리 잡을 수 있도록 프로젝트를 더욱 강화하겠다”고 강조했다.
