Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) announced that its delegation visited the Museum of the Future and Dubai Opera House, drawing key inspiration for the construction of a new government building and the expansion of cultural and artistic spaces in the province.

This visit focused on conducting an in-depth analysis of global case studies to strategically implement the "Bilbao Effect" for revitalizing Gangwon’s local economy and cultural scene.

The "Bilbao Effect" refers to the successful urban regeneration of Bilbao, Spain, through the Guggenheim Museum, which became a powerful cultural landmark driving economic and tourism growth.

The Gangwon delegation thoroughly examined the architectural design, operational strategies, and economic connectivity of the Museum of the Future, exploring ways to incorporate these insights into the design of Gangwon’s new government complex and cultural spaces.

Since its opening in 2022, the Museum of the Future has been recognized as a state-of-the-art architectural marvel and a symbolic landmark representing Dubai’s future vision. Its asymmetrical, circular structure made of steel and glass, with Arabic calligraphy engraved on its exterior, embodies a fusion of past and future.

Inside, the museum features interactive exhibitions on artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and sustainable technologies, showcasing Dubai’s commitment to innovation.

Governor Kim Jin-tae stated, “The Museum of the Future is an outstanding example of how advanced technology and symbolism can strengthen a city’s identity and drive economic growth. We will meticulously plan Gangwon’s new government building as a cultural landmark that serves as the heart of local economic and tourism development.”

Additionally, the delegation met with Abdulaziz AlJaziri, Deputy CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation, to discuss Dubai’s visionary urban strategies and potential collaboration on Gangwon’s future city blueprint.

The Gangwon delegation also visited Dubai Opera House to further refine their strategic vision for cultural space expansion and regional revitalization.

Opened in 2016, Dubai Opera House is a multi-functional cultural facility with a unique design inspired by the traditional Arabian dhow boat. With a seating capacity of 2,000, it serves as a premier venue for theater, opera, ballet, concerts, and a variety of cultural performances, making it one of Dubai’s iconic landmarks.

Governor Kim emphasized, “Gangwon’s future will be shaped by innovative design and cultural symbolism. By blending inspiration from the Museum of the Future and Dubai Opera House with Gangwon’s regional identity, we will transform the new government complex and The Art Complex into landmark spaces loved by both residents and tourists.”

Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province plans to integrate the insights gained from the visit to the Museum of the Future into the design of its new government building, incorporating innovative architecture and cultural elements. Furthermore, the province aims to foster simultaneous growth in the economy and cultural sectors through the development of The Art Gangwon Complex as a dynamic cultural and artistic hub.

강원특별자치도(도지사 김진태)는 두바이 미래박물관과 두바이 오페라하우스를 방문해 강원의 신청사 설립과 도시의 문화예술 공간 확장 계획에 중요한 영감을 얻었다고 밝혔다.

이번 방문은 글로벌 사례를 심도 있게 분석하며, 강원의 지역 경제와 문화 활성화를 위해 ‘빌바오 이펙트’를 전략적으로 구체화하는 데 중점을 두었다고 밝혔다.

강원방문단은 미래박물관 설계와 운영 방식, 지역 경제와의 연계성을 심도 있게 분석하며, 이를 강원의 신청사와 문화공간 설계에 접목할 방안을 모색했다.

두바이 미래박물관은 2022년 개관 이후 최첨단 건축물로 평가받으며, 두바이의 미래 비전을 상징하는 랜드마크로 자리 잡았다.

강철과 유리로 이루어진 비대칭 원형 구조와 외벽에 새겨진 아랍어 캘리그래피는 과거와 미래를 아우르는 상징성을 담고 있다.

내부는 인공지능(AI), 로봇, 지속 가능한 기술 등 첨단 기술을 체험할 수 있는 전시 공간으로 구성돼, 두바이의 혁신 정신을 고스란히 보여준다.

김진태 도지사는 “미래박물관은 첨단 기술과 상징성을 결합해 도시 정체성을 강화하고 경제를 활성화한 훌륭한 사례”라며, “강원 신청사 역시 문화적 상징물로 설계해 지역 경제와 관광의 중심지가 될 수 있도록 철저히 준비하겠다”고 말했다.

또한, 두바이 미래박물관을 운영하는 두바이 미래재단 압둘아지즈 알자지리 부대표(Deputy CEO)와 면담을 통해 두바이의 혁신적 도시 비전과 강원의 미래도시 청사진에 대한 협력 가능성을 논의했다

2016년 개관한 두바이 오페라하우스는 전통적인 아랍 목선(도우)을 형상화한 독창적인 디자인과 2,000석 규모의 다목적 공연 공간을 갖춘 복합형 문화시설로, 연극, 오페라, 발레, 콘서트 등 다양한 문화예술 활동을 아우르는 두바이의 대표적 랜드마크다.

김진태 도지사는 “강원의 미래는 혁신적 디자인과 문화적 상징성을 통해 만들어질 것”이라며, “두바이 미래박물관과 두바이 오페라하우스에서 영감과 강원만의 지역 정체성을 융합하여 도청사와 더아트콤플렉스를 지역민과 관광객 모두가 사랑하는 랜드마크로 공간으로 만들어 나가겠다”고 본 사업에 대한 강한의지를 밝혔다.

강원특별자치도는 두바이 미래박물관 시찰에서 얻은 통찰을 바탕으로, 도 신청사 설립에 혁신적 디자인과 문화적 요소를 접목하고 더 아트강원 콤플렉스 건립과 관련해서는 도시의 문화예술 공간조성으로 지역 경제와 문화의 동반 성장을 이끌어낼 방침이다.
