Kangwon Province Special Self-Governing Council Member Choi Jae-min Meets with Korean-American Candidates Running for the U.S. House and California Assembly

• Discusses policies on "Student Smartphone Ban in LA Public Schools" and "LA's Advanced Transportation System"
• Actively promotes the 2026 Gangneung ITS World Congress

On October 30 (local time), Choi Jae-min, a council member from the Kangwon Province Special Self-Governing Council (People Power Party, Wonju), met with David Kim, a candidate running for California's 34th Congressional District, and John Yi, a candidate for California's 54th State Assembly District, at Olympic Kalguksu, a restaurant in Koreatown, Los Angeles. The U.S. House election for California's 34th District will be held on November 5.

David Kim was the central figure in the 2022 film Chosen, which documented the stories of five Korean-American candidates who made history by running for the U.S. House in 2020.

Council Member Choi and the two candidates exchanged a wide range of views, including the "smartphone ban" set to be implemented for nearly 400,000 students in LA public schools starting in January 2025, as well as LA's advanced transportation system and Waymo’s autonomous robo-taxi services. During the discussion, Choi took the opportunity to actively promote the 2026 Gangneung ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) World Congress.

In closing, Council Member Choi offered his support to the three Korean-American candidates, including Grace Yoo, a candidate for LA City Council's 10th District, expressing his hopes for all of their success and promising to meet them again in Kangwon if they are elected.
